About the role

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all .
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.

Join Micron’s DRAM Technology Development organization and play a role in improving the equipment capabilities necessary for future memory technologies! Based at the NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex, the Albany team partners with equipment suppliers, research associates, and Micron’s global development groups to advance High-NA EUV, advanced patterning, and next-generation DRAM pathfinding.

Position Summary

As a CVD Equipment Development Engineer, Advanced Memory Pathfinding, you will build, implement, and refine advanced CVD and thin-film equipment supporting High-NA EUV and next-generation memory technology development at Albany.

You will work alongside Process Development, Process Integration, Facilities, NY CREATES engineering teams, and equipment suppliers to transform future technology needs into equipment capability, hardware configurations, controls, automation, and qualification plans. You will support equipment from initial capability evaluation and supplier interaction through installation, qualification, technology learning, continuous improvement, and manufacturing-readiness evaluation.

This role differs from routine sustaining equipment engineering. It focuses on selected new, outstanding, first-of-a-kind, or technology-critical equipment. Direct Micron leadership is required to develop capability, influence supplier roadmaps, protect strategic technology learning, and enable transfer readiness!

Responsibilities

Equipment Technology Development

- Develop and mature first-of-a-kind CVD equipment and chamber capabilities for carbon, dielectric, hardmask, liner, and advanced thin-film applications.

- Translate film-property, process, device, and integration requirements into equipment specifications, precursor and delivery requirements, chamber configurations, temperature and plasma controls, automation needs, and performance targets.

Supplier Co-Development and Roadmap Influence

- Work directly with equipment suppliers to develop hardware and capability solutions for emerging memory technologies.

- Communicate Micron’s long-term requirements and influence supplier technology and product roadmaps.

Installation, Qualification, and Equipment Readiness

- Support equipment configuration, technical specification, site planning, facilities requirements, installation, startup, and qualification.

- Establish equipment acceptance criteria and qualification plans that correspond with process development and integration requirements.

- Coordinate with NY builds, Facilities, suppliers, Process Development, and Equipment Engineering to reach equipment-readiness achievements.

Equipment Maturity and Performance

- Develop and complete equipment-maturity plans covering film uniformity, thickness control, composition, conformality, step coverage, particles, contamination, chamber matching, precursor utilization, reliability, efficiency, safety, and cost.

- Analyze complicated equipment and hardware faults by applying structured problem-solving methods.

- Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for equipment-related performance gaps.

Technology Enablement Across Multiple Functions

- Work together with Process Development and Process Integration engineers to understand process windows, hardware interactions, equipment limitations, and integration risks.

- Coordinate equipment learning with Metrology, Automation, Data Systems, Facilities, Environment, Health and Safety, and NY builds operations.

Automation, Data Analytics, and AI Enablement

- Develop equipment-data strategies that enable rapid solving, capability assessment, and maturity tracking.

- Leverage equipment signals, fault-detection data, sensors, and process results to understand hardware performance.

- Apply statistical methods, modeling, and AI-assisted analytics to identify anomalies, accelerate root-cause analysis, and improve decision quality.

Technology Transfer and Long-Term Support Model

- Develop the equipment knowledge package required to transfer successful capabilities into Micron development and manufacturing sites.

- Document hardware configurations, qualification criteria, operating limits, maintenance requirements, lessons learned, and known risks.

- Define the appropriate transition from development ownership to sustaining ownership.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.

- Five or more years of semiconductor equipment engineering, equipment development, technology development, or related experience.

- Experience developing, installing, qualifying, improving, or solving issues with complex semiconductor equipment.

- Experience using AI tools for productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in an applicable engineering or scientific field or equivalent experience.

- Experience with first-of-a-kind or advanced semiconductor equipment.

- Experience with DRAM, advanced memory, CVD, PECVD, ALD, thermal deposition, precursor delivery, thin-film metrology, or related equipment systems.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will:

- Ensure key CVD and thin-film equipment operate effectively for High-NA EUV and next-generation DRAM pathfinding.

- Mature first-of-a-kind equipment into reliable and usable development capability.

- Resolve equipment and hardware shortages before they obstruct essential technology learning.

- Establish strong technical partnerships with NY builds and equipment suppliers.
