About the role
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Software Engineering, Agent Platform based in the United States.
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to oversee a critical platform organization responsible for the reliability, performance, and scalability of a large-scale cybersecurity agent ecosystem. In this strategic leadership role, you will manage approximately 45 engineers across four globally distributed teams, driving technical delivery, operational excellence, and organizational growth. You will oversee the evolution of a core control plane, leading its transformation into scalable, regionally distributed services and modern container-based infrastructure. Working closely with architecture, product, and platform teams, you will ensure that engineering investments translate into measurable customer value. You will also strengthen engineering leadership, improve production reliability, and build greater senior engineering capabilities in the United States. This is an opportunity to shape mission-critical technology within a fast-paced, AI-driven cybersecurity environment.
Accountabilities:
- Take full ownership of the Agent Platform domain, overseeing delivery, operational health, engineering quality, and roadmap commitments across the organization.
- Drive platform reliability by strengthening existing reliability initiatives, reducing incident frequency, ensuring corrective actions are completed within defined timelines, and implementing observability practices that identify issues before they affect customers.
- Lead, mentor, and develop four engineering managers across multiple geographical locations, establishing consistent performance expectations, strengthening leadership capabilities, and building organizational depth.
- Represent the engineering domain in executive discussions and customer engagements, providing clear and accurate updates during incidents and regular business reviews while addressing technical questions from enterprise, managed security service provider (MSSP), and federal customers.
- Collaborate with agent and endpoint engineering teams, SaaS platform architects, Product Management, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to deliver cross-functional technical objectives.
- Lead the platform's architectural transformation from a monolithic control plane toward regional, horizontally scalable services and modern container-based deployment infrastructure, ensuring the existing production environment remains stable throughout the transition.
- Oversee capacity planning, resource allocation, and headcount strategy, balancing reliability improvements, architectural modernization, and new feature development while communicating priorities and trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Expand senior engineering capabilities in the United States, building a stronger local presence and ensuring sufficient technical leadership coverage during US business hours.
- Establish measurable operational and delivery objectives, ensuring sustained reductions in incident volume, timely corrective actions, predictable execution, stronger management capabilities, and successful delivery of major modernization milestones without customer-facing regressions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Typically 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading multiple engineering teams through managers in a SaaS or cloud infrastructure environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading globally distributed engineering organizations across multiple time zones and cultural environments, with strong practices around ownership, written communication, collaboration, and trust-building.
- Proven operational ownership of high-availability SaaS platforms in production, including incident management, root cause analysis, Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and measurable improvements in system reliability.
- Strong technical expertise in large-scale distributed backend systems, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, data stores, and multi-tenant architectures.
- Ability to engage confidently with senior engineers and technical architects, assess complex system designs, and make informed architectural and engineering decisions.
- Excellent executive and customer communication skills, with the ability to provide transparent updates, manage sensitive situations, and represent engineering effectively with enterprise stakeholders.
- A strong track record of predictable delivery, including effective planning, clear accountability, resource management, and consistent execution against technical and business commitments.
- Proven people management experience, including managing engineering managers, recruiting senior technical talent, developing leadership capabilities, and raising organizational performance standards.
- Strong business judgment and strategic thinking, with the ability to connect engineering investments to customer outcomes and clearly explain trade-offs between reliability, modernization, and product development.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical environments and competing priorities.
- Previous experience in the cybersecurity industry or security domain is considered an advantage but is not required.
- Must be based in the United States, specifically within the Eastern Standard Time (EST) or Central Standard Time (CST) zones, to ensure sufficient overlap with globally distributed engineering teams.
Benefits:
- Annual base salary: $206,250–$309,000, depending on candidate location and other relevant factors. Different salary ranges may apply in certain locations and will be communicated during the recruitment process.
- Equity and rewards: Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and access to an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
- Flexible time off: Flexible paid time off, company holidays, and paid sick leave.
- Family support: Gender-neutral parental leave and grandparent leave.
- Healthcare coverage: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Retirement and financial security: 401(k) retirement plan with company matching, life and disability insurance, and health and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
- Additional insurance: Voluntary hospital, accident, and critical illness coverage, as well as nationwide pet insurance and global business travel medical insurance.
- Wellbeing support: Employee Assistance Program (EAP), wellness coaching, and gym or wellness reimbursement.
- Home office and remote work support: Home office allowance and mobile phone reimbursement.
- Family-building benefits: Fertility coverage and adoption and surrogacy reimbursement.
- Additional support: Cancer Care program and ARAG prepaid legal services.
- Remote flexibility: Opportunity to work remotely within the United States, subject to the required EST or CST time zone alignment.
- Meaningful impact: Opportunity to contribute to the development of AI-driven cybersecurity technology that protects global enterprises, critical infrastructure, and essential digital systems.
