About the role

Are you a talented Digital Matte Painter who thrives on blending artistic vision with photorealistic detail to bring cinematic worlds to life?

We are looking for a DMP Artist to join our global team at Megalis. You will be responsible for developing highly realistic environment imagery from concept to final delivery, ensuring continuity with live-action plates and CG elements. By focusing on 2D and 2.5D workflows, projection setups, and atmospheric design, you will ensure our digital environments integrate seamlessly into the wider production pipeline.

This role is well suited to visually driven artists who are calm under pressure, structured in their workflows, and skilled at balancing creative ambition with technical requirements. If you enjoy solving integration challenges, communicating clearly, and collaborating closely with cross-departmental teams to deliver visually compelling work, you will be right at home here.

Key Responsibilities

- Environment Creation: Develop photorealistic digital matte paintings and large-scale environment extensions, including landscapes, cityscapes, skies, and terrain, from concept to final delivery.

- Atmosphere & Lighting: Enhance environments with atmospheric effects (haze, fog, volumetric light) and seamless lighting or time-of-day variations that align with the shot’s narrative context.

- Technical Integration: Build and manage 2. 5D projection setups to support camera movement, ensuring accurate perspective, scale, and visual continuity.

- Plate & CG Blending: Seamlessly integrate digital paintings, photographic sources, and CG renders while actively resolving technical challenges related to plate integration and perspective reconstruction.

- Asset Preparation: Maintain efficient working practices by structuring layered files and delivering highly organized, production-ready assets to downstream departments.

- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with Lighting, Compositing, Modeling, and FX to ensure smooth integration, communicating progress and technical needs clearly across multiple shots and schedules.

What You’ll Bring

- Industry Experience: Proven experience in a VFX or animation studio creating digital matte paintings and environment extensions for feature film or high-end episodic production.

- Artistic Foundation: A refined eye for photorealism, composition, scale, atmosphere, lighting, and perspective.

- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of 2D painting, 2. 5D projection setups, and plate integration, with strong proficiency in tools such as Photoshop, Nuke, Maya, or equivalent software.

- Communication Skills: Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with fluency in English required; Japanese language skills are considered an advantage.

If you’re ready to help keep creativity flowing and bring incredible photorealistic worlds to life, we’d love to hear from you.
