We are seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to lead the technical commissioning of electrical systems on data center projects, from design review through Integrated Systems Testing. In this independent, owner-engaged role, you will develop test procedures, direct the field team, assess results against design intent, and report findings to the owner.

The ideal candidate will combine strong data center commissioning expertise with the ability to lead electrical testing, resolve technical issues, mentor technicians, and communicate findings objectively to owners, designers, contractors, and operators.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Review electrical designs, specifications, protection coordination studies, and submittals against the owner’s project requirements, and identify commissioning concerns before equipment procurement.

- Develop commissioning plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for medium- and low-voltage distribution, generators, UPS and battery systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and power monitoring systems.

- Witness factory acceptance tests and lead site inspections, energization, pre-functional checks, and Level 4 functional performance testing.

- Plan and lead the electrical scope of Integrated Systems Testing, including utility loss, generator start and transfer, and UPS and bypass failure modes under load.

- Review sequences of operation and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) integration with the controls engineer.

- Analyze test data, resolve technical disputes, and determine whether results meet design requirements and acceptance criteria.

- Track deficiencies through closure, report commissioning progress to the owner and project leadership, and prepare test reports.

- Lead and mentor commissioning technicians and coordinate activities with contractors, designers, and operators.

- Follow site safety procedures and applicable electrical testing and permit requirements.

- Maintain accurate and independent reporting in accordance with Decima’s conflict-of-interest and independence policy, without influence from contractors or equipment suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

- 7 to 10 years of commissioning experience on electrical systems.

- At least 5 years of experience on data center projects, including participation in at least one Integrated Systems Test.

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

- Strong knowledge of data center power distribution, protection and coordination, UPS systems, batteries, and generators.

- Ability to develop test scripts and procedures and interpret single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and sequences of operation.

- Working knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and IEEE and NETA testing standards.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to report technical findings clearly and objectively when they challenge project expectations.

- Authorization to work in the United States and ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

- Ability to travel 50–75%, work extended site assignments, lift 50 lbs, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with high-density AI deployments and DC power architectures, including 800VDC, and developing project-specific test procedures.

- Professional certification or license, such as PE, CxA, or CPMP.

- Familiarity with ASHRAE Guidelines 0 and 1.1 and Uptime Institute practices.

- Experience supporting multiple owner programs or international projects.
