Job Description:
Company description
ITW (NYSE: ITW) is a Fortune 200 global multi-industry manufacturing leader. Its seven industry-leading segments apply the differentiated ITW Business Model to deliver growth, strong margins and attractive returns in markets requiring innovative, customer-focused solutions.
This role is within the Global Weigh & Wrap Division, part of the ITW Food Equipment Segment. The division designs and manufactures commercial weighing and wrapping equipment and software solutions for grocery, retail and food service customers worldwide, under the Avery Berkel and Hobart brands.
The role
The Global Strategic Sourcing Manager is a key member of the Global Weigh & Wrap leadership team and reports to the Vice President and General Manager. The role partners with global business, engineering, operations and materials teams to deliver growth, profitability, supply continuity and product-development objectives.
The position has responsibility for approximately $30 million of global spend, with significant focus on component, electrical and electronic categories. It supports manufacturing operations and new product development in Troy and Hillsboro, Ohio, and Birmingham, United Kingdom, while collaborating across ITW to leverage scale, capability and best practice.
Your responsibilities
• Develop, implement and continuously improve global sourcing processes, category strategies and supplier strategies aligned with the division’s commercial, operational and technology priorities. Develop annual and long range sourcing plans.
• Build and maintain a high-quality pipeline of sourcing and productivity opportunities, identifying, managing and delivering sustainable cost reductions, cost avoidance and value improvement.
• Lead global and regional tenders, supplier selection, qualification and negotiations, including pricing, commercial terms, contracts, quality expectations and supply commitments.
• Use total-cost analysis, target costing, benchmarking, market intelligence, tariff impact and competitive analysis to improve sourcing decisions and commercial outcomes.
• Conduct global benchmarking of suppliers, products, technologies and alternative solutions, together with make-or-buy, outsourcing and low-cost-country sourcing assessments where appropriate.
• Optimise the global supplier base and develop strategic supplier relationships that improve cost, quality, delivery, innovation and responsiveness. Establish and execute clear global supplier standards and governance.
• Lead the division’s supplier risk and resilience strategy, identifying, assessing and mitigating risks relating to capacity, financial health, geopolitical exposure, commodities, lend of life, technology and continuity of supply.
• Ensure sourcing strategies balance competitive cost, material availability, inventory, quality and operational resilience; work with materials teams on Kanban, vendor-managed inventory and pull-system opportunities.
• Provide market, commodity and supplier intelligence to leadership and cross-functional teams, translating external developments into clear risks, opportunities and recommended actions.
• Partner with Engineering, Operations and New Product Development teams from concept through commercialisation, engaging suppliers early to optimise design, cost, quality, technology, manufacturability, phase in/out and supply continuity.
• Align sourcing and supplier strategies with current and future product requirements, including component standardisation, preferred technologies and long-term supply roadmaps.
• Coordinate cross-region and international sourcing projects, promoting standardised processes, common specifications, synergies and leverage across the division and wider ITW organisation.
• Ensure sourcing activities comply with ITW policies, procedures, ethical standards and contractual requirements, while maintaining appropriate commercial and supplier documentation.
• Maintain accurate supplier, spend, savings and performance data; develop and monitor dashboards that clearly communicate project status, sourcing performance, risks and results.
• Provide sourcing leadership, coaching and functional support to local procurement and materials teams, helping strengthen capability, consistency and execution across the division.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, materials management, engineering or a related discipline; an MBA, advanced technical degree or recognized purchasing qualification is preferred.
• More than five years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement or supply chain within an industrial manufacturing environment; experience in capital equipment, machinery, assembly or electrical/electronic components is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience developing category and supplier strategies, project management, leading formal sourcing processes and delivering measurable cost, quality, delivery and risk improvements in a global environment.
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with sound knowledge of contract development, commercial terms, supplier agreements and procurement risk management.
• Practical understanding of manufacturing operations, logistics, material requirements planning, inventory management and Lean methods, including Kanban, vendor-managed inventory and pull systems.
• Experience using total-cost and target-costing methods, supplier and product benchmarking, make-or-buy analysis and market or commodity intelligence.
• Strong technical, conceptual and analytical capability, with the ability to understand complex products, cost drivers, supply markets and operational trade-offs.
• Proven ability to lead through influence and work effectively with diverse, international and cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance and New Product Development.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build relationships, challenge constructively and communicate clear recommendations to senior leadership and suppliers.
• Highly self-motivated, action-oriented and results-focused, with the judgement to set priorities, manage multiple initiatives and follow through to completion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP, sourcing, spend-analysis and supplier-performance systems.
Working conditions
• Office-based role either in Troy or Hillsboro, Ohio.
• Domestic and international travel of approximately 25%, based on business and supplier requirements.
