About the role

[What the role is]
The Special Incident and Outbreak Investigation Department safeguards public health by responding to gastroenteritis incidents and investigating food safety-related feedback. As a manager, you will help shape SFA’s response to emerging food safety risks by contributing to outbreak investigation, enforcement and preventive work across physical and online food retail environments.
[What you will be working on]

- Investigate gastroenteritis incidents and food safety-related feedback through evidence gathering from importers and food businesses to assess compliance and identify plausible causes.

- Plan and coordinate operations as well as regulatory follow-up with relevant agencies. Take appropriate enforcement action against the implicated parties for non-compliance with food safety requirements and support proportionate responses, such as the removal of online listings.

- Engage and collaborate with government agencies, industry stakeholders and online marketplaces on preventive and response measures to reduce foodborne disease burden.

- Analyse outbreak and surveillance data to identify signals and emerging risks, develop dashboards, and explore appropriate AI-assisted tools to support faster, evidence-based decisions.

- Translate lessons from incidents and operations into improvements to investigation protocols, operational procedures and capability-building initiatives.

- Maintain accurate operational databases, and undertake other duties aligned with the mandate of SFA.

[What we are looking for]

- Relevant experience in regulatory operations, investigations, enforcement, food safety and/or customer feedback management is preferred.

- A relevant qualification or knowledge in Public Health, Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Biology or another science-related discipline would be advantageous.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgement and attention to detail, with the ability to translate evidence into practical recommendations.

- Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and the confidence to work with government agencies, industry and multidisciplinary teams.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital research. Experience with Power BI, data visualisation or AI-assisted knowledge and analytical tools is an advantage.

- Ability to manage concurrent priorities and work independently in dynamic operational settings, including field work outside normal office hours when required.

- A valid Class 3 driving licence is preferred.

Work Location: SFA HQ at JEM Office Tower, 52 Jurong Gateway Road, Singapore 608550.
