TUJ holds classes in the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer semester.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Temple University Japan invites applications for two full-time faculty positions in its undergraduate International Business Studies (IBS) Program, with an anticipated start date of July 2027. Appointments may be made at the lecturer or professorial level, subject to academic qualifications and applicable university appointment criteria.

We seek accomplished undergraduate educators who are passionate about student learning, intellectually engaged with international business, and eager to help prepare the next generation of professionals for a rapidly changing global economy.

IBS is TUJ’s largest undergraduate major by enrollment. Located within an American university in Tokyo, the program offers an unusually international setting for exploring how business decisions are shaped by countries, institutions, cultures, technologies, and competitive environments.

We seek colleagues who can connect enduring principles of business and management to emerging realities, including artificial intelligence, geopolitical change, global value-chain transformation, and corporate responsibility.

This is a teaching-centered academic appointment. Faculty members have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the development of undergraduate courses, curriculum, student learning assessment, and the continued advancement of the IBS Program.

Typical teaching assignments for Assistant, Associate, and full Professors comprise a minimum of six courses annually, ordinarily distributed 2–2–2 across fall, spring, and summer. Lecturer and Senior Lecturer appointments normally carry a load of ten courses annually. All full-time faculty are expected to make substantive service contributions. Specific teaching, service, and scholarly expectations will be clarified during the appointment process.

Faculty members at TUJ teach a diverse student body from around the world. Candidates may be asked to teach traditional in-person classes, online classes, or Hyflex classes. The successful candidate will collaborate with the division chair on the yearly course offerings.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- A completed graduate degree (MBA, relevant master’s degree, DBA, Ph.D., or other appropriate terminal degree) in international business, business administration, management, economics, or a closely related field.

- Documented experience as instructor of record for at least one undergraduate course at a recognized institution of higher education, with responsibility for instruction and evaluation of student work. Comparable substantial university-level co-teaching experience may be considered when responsibilities are clearly documented.

- Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching and a commitment to student learning, inclusive instruction, fair assessment, and continuous improvement.

- Ability and willingness to contribute to curriculum development, assessment of learning, and other faculty service responsibilities.

- TUJ is an English-speaking workplace and classes are taught in English; fluency in English is required.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Experience teaching in the U.S. higher education system or a comparable undergraduate instructional environment.

- Demonstrated accomplishment in course design, assessment, active learning, or effective use of educational technologies.

- Relevant international business experience, particularly across countries, cultures, or institutional settings.

- A record of research, scholarly publication, scholarship of teaching and learning, or a credible ongoing scholarly agenda appropriate to the appointment level.

- Familiarity with program-level learning outcomes, assurance of learning, and higher education accreditation processes.

- Ability to teach multiple courses within a coherent disciplinary cluster.

Relevant industry experience is valued but does not substitute for the required evidence of undergraduate university teaching experience.

Application Process

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Applications received by November 30, 2026, will receive fullest consideration.

Required application materials to be submitted:
