About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Power Systems Engineer – Grid Integration & Power Electronics based in the United States.

As a Principal Power Systems Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership on complex grid integration and power systems projects across North America. You will lead critical studies involving renewable energy, battery storage, transmission planning, inverter-based resources, and grid interconnection. Combining deep engineering expertise with client-facing responsibilities, you will establish technical methodologies, validate advanced models, and deliver reliable solutions for utilities, developers, investors, and public-sector organizations. You will also mentor engineering teams, oversee project delivery, and contribute to strategic client relationships and business growth. This fully remote opportunity offers the chance to influence the evolution of modern power systems and support the transition toward a more reliable, renewable, and resilient energy grid. The role is open to candidates based in the United States or Canada, with a preference for Canada-based applicants.

Accountabilities

You will serve as a senior technical authority and trusted client advisor, leading sophisticated power systems studies while ensuring technical excellence, project quality, and successful delivery.

Technical Leadership & Grid Integration

-
Lead complex power systems, grid interconnection, transmission planning, renewable energy, battery storage, inverter-based resource (IBR), power quality, and grid compliance studies.

-
Establish study methodologies, assumptions, modeling approaches, and technical quality standards.

-
Review, validate, and troubleshoot engineering models, serving as a final technical reviewer for key deliverables.

-
Lead RMS and EMT modeling, model validation, and inverter-based resource performance assessments.

-
Address complex grid integration challenges and develop technically sound recommendations for clients.

Client & Project Management

-
Present and defend technical findings to clients, utilities, ISO/RTOs, regulators, and other industry stakeholders.

-
Manage key client relationships, project scopes, schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.

-
Ensure projects meet agreed technical requirements, quality expectations, and delivery timelines.

-
Provide technical guidance and support throughout project execution and client engagements.

Team Development & Business Growth

-
Mentor engineers, review technical work, and support the development of engineering capabilities.

-
Contribute to proposals, technical scopes, fee estimates, and business development initiatives.

-
Identify opportunities to strengthen existing client relationships and support new project engagements.

-
Stay informed about evolving FERC, NERC, IEEE, ISO/RTO, utility, and Canadian grid requirements.

Requirements

The ideal candidate combines extensive power systems engineering experience with advanced expertise in grid integration and inverter-based resources. You should be comfortable leading complex technical assignments, advising clients, mentoring engineers, and managing projects across a remote, multidisciplinary environment.

Required Qualifications

-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related engineering discipline.

-
8+ years of experience in the US and/or Canadian power sector, including senior technical or engineering leadership responsibilities.

-
Strong expertise in inverter-based resource modeling, grid integration, and complex power systems studies.

-
Advanced proficiency in at least two of the following platforms: PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E, GE PSLF, ASPEN, MATLAB/Simulink, or PowerGEM TARA.

-
Practical experience with RMS and EMT modeling, simulation, and model validation.

-
Proven ability to present and defend technical findings before clients, utilities, and other external stakeholders.

-
Experience mentoring engineers and managing project scope, budgets, and schedules.

-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

-
Authorization to work in the United States or Canada, or eligibility to obtain work authorization through employer-sponsored immigration support. Visa sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
