Research Associate in Transcriptomic Analysis of Brain Repair

The Michael Smith Laboratories at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, invites applications for a full-time Research Associate term position in neural stem cell biology and brain repair to work under the supervision of Dr. Freda Miller. The successful candidate will use single cell multiomic approaches, including spatial transcriptomics, to analyze murine brain repair models, with a particular focus on neural stem cells and microglia.

Project : While the mammalian brain does not normally repair well, under some circumstances there is a limited repair capacity. For this project, the Research Associate will work with other researchers in the Miller laboratory to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms that allow this somewhat limited repair, and will define the relevant cell type responses, with a particular focus on neural stem cells and microglia. The Research Associate will use mouse models and single cell multiomics, including spatial transcriptomics to address these issues.

Candidate: The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in biology, molecular biology or other related biomedical sciences field. The candidate must have experience in the areas of molecular cellular biology and neuroscience and postdoctoral experience with single cell spatial transcriptomics and genetic mouse models as applied to mammalian brain repair. The candidate must be able to work well on a team.

Opportunity: The University of British Columbia is located in Vancouver, which is world-renowned for its scenery and quality of living. The successful applicant will join a vibrant, collaborative environment at UBC’s Michael Smith Laboratories and will benefit from opportunities to engage with world-class researchers in the field of stem cells and regenerative biology.

The expected pay range for this position is $79,872 per annum. The initial appointment will be for one year with an anticipated start date of January 2, 2027 with a possibility for extension, subject to satisfactory performance and funding.

Application Process: Interested applicants should submit a CV, list of publications and cover letter that details their experience to the UBC Workday portal. Application materials should be submitted no later than the posting end date.
