About the role

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow for Organic Electrosynthesis. This position supports the development of advanced heterogeneous nanocatalysts for organic electrosynthesis. The role focuses on designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel nanomaterials to drive efficient electrocatalytic transformations for sustainable organic chemical synthesis, alongside elucidating reaction pathways and active site mechanisms.

The Research Fellow will take on a significant role in designing electrocatalysts, executing electrochemical experiments, leading advanced material characterizations, drafting high-impact research manuscripts, and providing day-to-day guidance to undergraduate and graduate research students.

Key Responsibilities:

- Synthesize, functionalize, and optimize novel heterogeneous nanocatalysts tailored for organic electrosynthetic reactions.

- Conduct comprehensive physical and chemical characterization of nanocatalysts using analytical techniques such as XRD, XPS, TEM/SEM, FTIR, Raman, NMR, and BET.

- Design, execute, troubleshoot, and optimize electrocatalytic experiments (e.g., CV, LSV, chronoamperometry, controlled-potential electrolysis) to evaluate catalytic performance, selectivity, and stability.

- Elucidate reaction pathways, active site structures, and structure-property relationships in organic electrosynthetic processes.

- Analyze technical data, monitor project deliverables, prepare progress reports, and present research findings to collaborators and funding agencies.

- Draft scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to patent applications where applicable.

- Support laboratory safety compliance, equipment maintenance, and provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate research students.

Job Requirements:

- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.

- Strong expertise in heterogeneous catalyst synthesis, nanomaterial chemistry, and organic electrosynthesis/electrochemistry.

- Hands-on proficiency in electrochemical techniques and material characterization tools, including XRD, XPS, TEM, SEM, EDX, NMR, GC-MS, and HPLC.

- Demonstrated ability to design and troubleshoot complex experimental setups, analyze research data, and work independently.

- Strong publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience with in-situ / operando spectroscopy techniques is an advantage.

- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with experience mentoring junior researchers.

- Proven ability to manage multiple research projects concurrently, meet project milestones, and adhere to laboratory safety requirements.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
