About the role
Job Description:
Dow Jones Newswires seeks a dynamic and experienced financial journalist to drive coverage of markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
This Singapore-based role positions you on the front lines of our real-time operations, putting some of the biggest market-moving news of the day—from multibillion-dollar swings in equities to coordinated currency intervention—in your hands. An important focus will be digital assets and crypto coverage as the sector attracts significant investment flows in Asia. This is an opportunity to work with a team of smart and versatile reporters, helping to shape and elevate their content. A key part of the role is to identify the top market stories that can lead across all platforms.
The role involves delivering rapid-fire headlines and then going behind the news to explain what is driving shifts in asset prices. The successful candidate will be able to break news, quickly contextualize events, distill complex regulation, and tap into trading rooms to understand the forces moving markets.
Accuracy, speed, sharp news judgment and rigorous attention to detail are essential. You should have deep knowledge of market news and a clear understanding of what institutional investors and traders rely on from a real-time news service.
You will:
- Exercise exceptional news judgment to identify high-impact news for market professionals, with the ability to efficiently prioritize and summarize developments into smart briefs and incisive analysis of what the news means for investors, synthesizing a wealth of available content.
- Collaborate across teams, including Dow Jones Newswires, The Wall Street Journal, and global bureaus.
- Demonstrate sharp numeracy, draw on deep financial knowledge, and confidently analyze the data behind a story in real time.
- Uphold the highest Dow Jones standards and ethics.
- Anticipate the needs and expectations of Dow Jones Newswires’ core institutional audiences.
You have:
- A minimum of five years’ newsroom experience, preferably in financial journalism.
- A well-honed sense of urgency and proven composure under breaking-news pressure.
- The ability to prioritize competing deadlines while handling multiple responsibilities.
- Deep intellectual curiosity and a drive to master complex market trends.
- Agility in navigating fluid news cycles and coordinating seamless handoffs.
- Proven familiarity with real-time newsroom workflows.
- A strong track record of cross-desk teamwork.
