About the role

Introduction to the role
ASML Wilton is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join the Wilton Factory Optics team with primary ownership of CNC deterministic polishing processes. This role is responsible for process development, stabilization, and daily performance, requiring deep technical knowledge of optical fabrication, strong analytical skills, and the ability to drive sustainable improvements in a fast-paced production environment.

The engineer will directly support output, yield, and quality targets, including improving First Pass Yield (FPY) through stable, predictable, and well-controlled processes.

This role requires a proactive engineering mindset focused on anticipating production risks, driving structured 6P readiness , performing thorough root cause analysis (RCA), and evaluating new technologies that strengthen long-term process control.

Role and responsibilities
The Senior Process Engineer will serve as a technical leader within Wilton Factory Optics, with end-to-end ownership of CNC deterministic polishing processes. Responsibilities include:

- Define and optimize process parameters, tooling, measurement stability, and machine behavior.

- Manage CNC deterministic polishing performance, environmental controls, and measurement output quality to ensure consistency across tools and shifts.

- Control tooling, environment, fixturing, and other factors influencing surface figure and polishing output.

- Lead the introduction and qualification of new fixtures, tools, software, and machine upgrades.

- Interpret interferometry, profilometry, and surface inspection data and translate results into actionable process decisions.

- Establish process windows, capability targets, and long-term monitoring systems.

- Use JMP or Minitab and SPC analysis tools to identify variation, drift, and chronic stability risks.

- Maintain process specifications, work instructions, and standard work to ensure processes are robust, documented, and repeatable.

- Collaborate with production technicians, supervisors, grinding and polishing teams, quality, equipment engineering, and maintenance to balance immediate production needs with long-term improvements.

- Build process stability that prevents rework and FPY loss and eliminate sources of variation impacting FPY and yield.

- Lead structured RCA using statistical and analytical methods, ensuring corrective actions are verified, embedded, and sustainable.

- Own full 6P readiness for process, material, or equipment changes.

- Proactively evaluate and integrate CNC deterministic polishing statistical process control methods, advanced tools, next-generation technologies, and equipment or software capabilities that improve stability, predictability, and throughput.

Education and experience

- BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Optical, Materials, or related engineering field.

- Minimum 5 years of experience in optical fabrication and CNC deterministic polishing machines .

- Experience in tooling mechanics, CNC deterministic polishing interpretation, and process development.

- Demonstrated ability in structured problem solving, data analysis, RCA, and process improvement.

Skills

- Strong understanding of CNC deterministic polishing and tooling mechanics for accurate measurements.

- Proficiency with interferometry, profilometry, and surface inspection tools.

- Experience using JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical software.

- Strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership skills in a production environment.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities under time-sensitive conditions.

- Demonstrated capability in 6P readiness, structured RCA, and verification-driven corrective action.

Other information
Work includes time on the fabrication floor, interaction with CNC deterministic polishing equipment, and periods of standing or walking. The role may require lifting materials up to 35 pounds . Visual acuity for inspection tasks is required.
The environment includes exposure to noise, vibration, and manufacturing equipment while wearing appropriate PPE. Candidates must be willing to work in a cleanroom environment and wear coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, and gloves for the entire duration of the shift .
