About the role
Experience in electrical engineering or electrical installations is essential. Applicants must have the right to work in the EU and hold a valid passport for travel to EU project locations.
Senior Quantity Surveyor
Annual salary: €75,000–€110,000 / £65,000–£95,000
Package: Depending on experience and project scope, with a performance-linked bonus offering additional on-target earning potential
Location: Irish and European projects — recruiting across Ireland and NI
Job type: Full-time
The role
Own day-to-day commercial control of assigned electrical engineering projects, from tender support and procurement through valuations, change control and final accounts. Work with delivery teams to protect margin and maintain reliable forecasts.
Know the scope, know the cost and keep the evidence. A variation is only useful when it is recorded, priced and progressed.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse drawings, produce take-offs and assess material requirements using appropriate digital tools.
- Support tenders, PQQs, bids and cost or time analysis. Review contract terms with the Commercial Manager.
- Monitor budgets, committed costs and cost-to-complete. Prepare monthly cost and cash-flow reports.
- Prepare interim applications and valuations supported by evidence of progress and entitlement.
- Record and price variations, compensation events and claims. Maintain notices and submission deadlines.
- Procure subcontractors, obtain supplier prices, assess terms and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Measure, assess and certify subcontractor applications within delegated authority.
- Reconcile subcontractor accounts and negotiate final accounts.
- Assess programme changes and milestone impacts with Planners and delivery teams, including Extension of Time claim support.
- Maintain audit-ready commercial records and escalate contractual exposure, margin erosion and payment risks.
What we are looking for
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying and at least seven years of relevant experience.
- Substantial electrical construction project experience, with evidence of the packages and values you handled.
- Irish and UK site experience; European, pharmaceutical or industrial experience desirable.
- Practical knowledge of standard forms of contract, valuations, variations, claims and subcontractor accounts.
- Strong Excel, reporting and job-costing systems skills.
- Confident negotiation, accurate record-keeping and effective deadline management.
- Ownership and effective collaboration. People management is required where the assigned remit includes supervision.
- Previous data centre experience desirable, but not essential where your electrical project experience meets the role’s requirements.
Bring the evidence
Experience matters. Evidence earns trust. Tell us what you personally owned and the results you delivered.
- Electrical package values, your remit and the commercial outcomes achieved.
- Examples of substantiated variations, final account settlements or recovery of margin at risk.
- Forecasts or control improvements you owned, explained with anonymised figures.
Anonymised examples and figures are welcome. We may follow up with references; confidential employer, client or employee records are not required.
How success is measured
Reliable forecasts, timely valuations and notices, controlled subcontractor accounts, evidenced change recovery and protection of target margin.
Responsibility and judgement
Manage assigned project commercial activity and approve documentation within delegated limits. Escalate material contractual, payment or margin risks to the Commercial Manager.
Why join Centum
Take your electrical project commercial experience into an expanding portfolio of engineering and European data centre work. Work with experienced colleagues and take ownership of measurable outcomes.
European rotations are available according to assignment. Rotation, travel, accommodation and any assignment-specific pay or tax arrangements will be explained during recruitment. These depend on the project, employment arrangements and individual circumstances.
Be clear about the commitment
You need to know the job behind the numbers.
Expect direct involvement with project teams, office and site attendance, and travel where the assignment requires it. European assignments may involve extended periods near the project.
This is not advertised as a home-based role. Working location and travel arrangements will be discussed during recruitment.
