Your Role at Baxter

As a Senior Software Engineer / Software Architect, you will provide hands-on technical leadership for critical healthcare product platforms operating in regulated environments. You will define strategic technology direction while actively contributing to software development, modernization initiatives, incident resolution, and continuous service improvement. In this role, you will design and deliver secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable software solutions; mentor engineering teams; drive technical decision-making; and support production services.
Working closely with architecture, engineering, product, quality, validation, infrastructure, security, and delivery teams, you will enable the frequent delivery of business value while ensuring compliance with Good "x" Practice (GxP) requirements, risk management processes, and change control procedures.

What You'll be Doing

- Mentor engineers and promote ownership, accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence, including code quality and maintainability.

- Establish and apply development standards, coding guidelines, architectural principles, secure development practices, and technical governance. Lead architecture, design, and code reviews.

- Partner with Product, Quality, Validation, Infrastructure, Security, and business stakeholders to plan, estimate, prioritize, and deliver compliant releases from concept through production.

- Support global business-critical applications by leading complex troubleshooting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation efforts, while driving resilience improvements, observability, monitoring, performance optimization, and continuous service improvement.

- Ensure development and release activities meet applicable Good "x" Practice (GxP), quality, security, and validation requirements, including governance, change control, risk management, and audit and inspection readiness.

- Use and promote AI-assisted engineering practices responsibly to improve software development, code reviews, documentation, analysis, testing, and modernization efforts, while validating outputs and applying appropriate governance, risk controls, and human oversight.

What You'll Bring

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent country-specific qualification) is preferred. Candidates with 12+ years of relevant professional experience may also be considered.

- Advanced practical knowledge of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, design patterns, application architecture, and secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.

- Strong commercial experience with C#/.NET, Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP), modern web technologies, Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs), SQL, and relational database design.

- Experience designing, developing, and supporting web applications and distributed systems, including ASP.NET solutions, JavaScript, HTML, CSS front-end technologies, authentication and identity management solutions, and API integrations.

- Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), cloud-native architecture, infrastructure and application hosting models, monitoring and observability practices, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), DevOps principles, and cloud security controls.

- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, influence technical direction, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, resolve complex problems, and make pragmatic decisions that balance short-term delivery needs with long-term sustainability.

- Experience driving technical improvements and supporting critical production applications throughout the software delivery lifecycle while operating within structured governance, risk management, release management, and change control processes.

- Practical experience using AI-assisted software development tools responsibly, including evaluating output quality, identifying inaccuracies or potential risks, and applying appropriate engineering judgment to ensure secure, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
