Job Description
When an emergency call is placed, latency, downtime, and dropped packets are not just platform metrics—they directly impact human lives.
Our Kraków Engineering Center is expanding the core platform behind Next-Generation 911/Emergency Call Handling (VNXT). We design, build, and operate ultra-reliable, event-driven, real-time telecommunications systems engineered to withstand regional outages, massive traffic spikes, and zero planned downtime.
Joining the Emergency Call Handling team in Krakow, you will contribute to extending capabilities of our mission critical , highly available(99.999%) platform and enhancing the existing technologies we use. Watch to learn more about VNXT Call Handling !
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer ready to step into Staff Engineer / Hands-on Architect who thrives at the intersection of deep distributed systems design, hands-on implementation, and operational ownership.
Why This Role?
If you have spent the last several years successfully steering complex, high-stakes technical projects from vague concept to rock-solid production, this is your platform to step up.
In this role, you will not be an "ivory tower" architect writing abstract slide decks. You will be an active, code-fluent technical leader who shapes architectural decisions, models technical excellence, mentors senior engineers, and drives a rigorous DevOps / "you build it, you run it" culture across cross-functional teams.
What You Will Do:
- Drive Architectural Strategy: Own end-to-end technical direction for high-throughput, low-latency call routing, media processing, and mission-critical signaling engines.
- Lead Complex Technical Initiatives to Completion: Take ambiguous, mission-critical problems, break them down into concrete architectural milestones, build cross-team consensus, and shepherd them through execution and delivery.
- Engineer for Five-Nines (99.999%): Design resilient distributed topologies across hybrid-cloud environments (AWS/Azure/Bare-metal/OpenShift) with zero-downtime deployments, self-healing mechanics, and rigorous fault isolation.
- Champion Modern DevOps & Observability: Embed telemetry-first thinking across the lifecycle. Partner with teams on CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, distributed tracing, and automated chaos/failover testing.
- Raise the Engineering Bar: Author Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), conduct high-impact code and design reviews, and systematically eliminate technical debt.
- Mentor & Multiply: Coach and elevate senior and mid-level engineers, helping them master system design, software craftsmanship, and operational maturity.
- Bridge Strategy and Reality: Translate platform technical debt and architecture roadmaps into clear business value for executive leadership (up to VP level), while staying deeply aligned with our North American customer base and peer teams.
Basic Requirements
- Proven Technical Leadership: 8–10+ years of software engineering experience with a demonstrated track record of leading complex, multi-system initiatives from architecture through deployment.
- JVM Mastery: Deep, hands-on production expertise in modern Java (Spring Boot, Quarkus, or equivalent high-performance enterprise frameworks).
- UI Tech knowledge (TypeScript / Angular) to help guide holistic platform and API design.
- Distributed Systems at Scale: Thorough understanding of concurrency, asynchronous messaging, event-driven design, data consistency models, microservices patterns, and resilient interfaces.
- Cloud & Container Native: Hands-on experience architecting and operating workloads on Kubernetes , Docker , and public or private cloud platforms ( AWS , Azure, Openshift ).
- Strong DevOps & Telemetry Mindset: Practical experience with infrastructure as code, automated testing pipelines, and deep observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK).
- Pragmatic Decision-Making: Ability to assess trade-offs, make sound decisions under incomplete information, and balance immediate operational reliability with long-term technological vision.
- Fluent Communication: Professional English proficiency (written and spoken) to seamlessly interface with distributed engineering teams, platform stakeholders, and North American partners.
Standout Qualifications (Bonus Points)
- Hands-on exposure to real-time media and signaling protocols : SIP, RTP, WebRTC, MSRP, Asterisk, or GStreamer.
- Experience with low-level systems programming languages (e.g., Rust or C++ ) or network performance tuning.
- Prior background in telecom, fintech, or life-critical environments where five-nines uptime is a contractual requirement.
In return for your expertise, we’ll support you in this new challenge with coaching & development every step of the way. Also, to reward your work you’ll get the following:
- Private medical coverage, Multisport
- Life insurance (two annual income),
- Employee Stock Purchase Plan – 15% discount for buying Motorola’s Stock units,
- Employee Pension Plan – 3,5 % of the month’s salary gross, which goes to the retirement account
- IP Tax Relief
- Yearly salary increase (depends on individual performance)
- Yearly bonus (depends on company performance)
- Flexible working hours (usually day starts between 7-10),
- 8 hours working day (30 minutes lunch break included).
