Why this role matters
You are the person the RCM engineering team looks to for direction, delivery accountability, and career development. The team's ability to keep shipping reliable automation for our healthcare customers — and to grow together as engineers — flows through your leadership.
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of Software Engineers (SE I, SE II, and Senior level) building intelligent automation solutions for Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) in the healthcare industry. In this role, you will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management within an agile delivery framework, driving the team to deliver reliable, scalable, and compliant automation systems built on Python, Selenium, OpenCV, and Azure. You will own the team's hiring, development, and performance, while partnering closely with operations, clinical, and executive stakeholders to align engineering output with business priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- People Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Software Engineers across SE I, SE II, and Senior levels; conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career-development conversations.
- Hiring & Team Building: Own the full hiring lifecycle for engineering roles — sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding — to build a high-performing, collaborative team.
- Technical Leadership: Maintain sufficient technical depth to guide architectural decisions, participate in design reviews, and ensure the team delivers production-grade Python automation solutions.
- Delivery & Execution: Own team-level delivery commitments; remove blockers, manage priorities, and ensure projects ship on time with the quality and compliance standards the healthcare domain demands.
- Code Review: Perform regular code reviews on team pull requests, providing constructive feedback that reinforces code quality, consistency, and engineering growth; model the review standards expected across the team.
- Agile Delivery: Operate the team on agile principles as the default way of working — leading sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and iterative delivery practices that keep the team aligned, adaptive, and continuously improving.
- Engineering Standards: Establish and continuously improve standards for code quality, testing, documentation, security, and CI/CD practices across the team.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for operations, clinical, and executive stakeholders; translate business needs into engineering priorities and communicate progress clearly.
- Compliance Oversight: Ensure all team deliverables adhere to HIPAA, HITRUST, and healthcare data security requirements; champion a culture of compliance within the team.
- Process Improvement: Identify and drive improvements to team workflows, development processes, and automation practices to increase reliability, velocity, and engineering satisfaction.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate dependencies with other engineering teams and business units; represent the team in planning, roadmap, and prioritization discussions.
- Vendor & Tool Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend tools, platforms, and technologies (e.g., Azure services, AI/ML capabilities, RPA tooling) that improve the team's effectiveness and output quality.
Requirements
- Strong background in Python software development — Jorie is a Python shop; you will need enough hands-on Python depth to review and reason about your team's automation code every day.
- Clear understanding of automation, RCM workflows, and the healthcare technology landscape.
- Fluency with Git and collaborative development workflows (feature branches, code review, PR discipline).
- Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers at multiple seniority levels.
- Deep understanding of healthcare data privacy requirements, including HIPAA and HITRUST.
- Proven ability to balance people leadership with delivery accountability in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable navigating ambiguity.
- Exceptional communication skills; able to translate between engineering detail and business impact.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in an engineering management or team-lead role.
- Track record of growing engineers' skills and careers, including building clear development paths and fostering a culture of continuous learning and feedback.
- Experience owning end-to-end delivery of complex automation or software projects, including scope management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Ability to engage credibly in technical discussions around Python automation, Selenium, OpenCV, AI/ML tooling, and Azure cloud services.
- Sufficient hands-on engineering background to earn the trust of senior engineers and make informed tradeoff decisions on architecture, tooling, and technical debt.
- Familiarity with EHR / billing systems, healthcare web portals, and revenue cycle management automation.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Key Vault, App Services, Azure DevOps).
- Familiarity with logging, alerting, and observability practices.
