Advanced Process Support (APS) Engineer, PCV
About the role
As an Advanced Process Support (APS) Engineer , you will provide process-focused technical support for FLSmidth's Pumps, Cyclones & Valves (PCV) business, helping customers improve mineral processing performance.
You will work closely with our Sales and Site Support teams at customer mine sites, bringing deeper process expertise to grinding, classification, gravity concentration, and slurry transport circuits. While Field Service teams focus primarily on mechanical installation and maintenance, you will focus on how our equipment performs within the overall process.
This is a highly customer-facing, field-based role with approximately 50% to 75% travel across the assigned region/territories.
Your responsibilities
- Process support and optimization: Serve as a technical process resource for Sales and Site Support on grinding, classification, gravity concentration, and slurry transport circuits. Diagnose performance issues and recommend operating or equipment changes that improve throughput, recovery, and wear life.
- Circuit surveys and sampling: Plan and execute plant surveys and sampling campaigns, including particle size analysis, density and flow measurement, and mass balancing. Establish baseline performance and quantify the impact of improvements.
- Simulations and sizing: Use FLSmidth proprietary software to perform cyclone simulations, pump sizing, and circuit modeling for proposals, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Validate results against field data and share learnings with Product Line and Applications Engineering teams.
- Commissioning and troubleshooting: Support commissioning of new PCV and Knelson installations from a process perspective. Troubleshoot issues such as cyclone roping, bypass, poor separation, and pump-cyclone mismatch in collaboration with Field Service Engineers.
- Digital solutions: Support the deployment, configuration, and customer adoption of Krebs OSA and other PCV digital and monitoring products. Interpret process data and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Gravity concentration: Support Knelson gravity concentrator applications, including gravity recoverable gold (GRG) assessment, circuit design reviews, performance audits, and optimization of existing installations.
- Sales support: Partner with Sales to identify upgrade and competitor-displacement opportunities. Develop technical value cases supported by survey and simulation data and contribute to customer proposals and presentations.
- Customer training: Deliver process-focused training to plant metallurgists and operators covering the performance, operation, and optimization of PCV products and digital solutions.
- Reporting and knowledge sharing: Prepare clear, professional survey, commissioning, and site reports documenting findings and recommendations. Share field learnings across Site Support, Applications Engineering, and Product Line teams.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in mineral processing. Experience as a plant metallurgist or in a similar operations-facing process role is strongly preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of comminution circuits, slurry transport, and plant performance metrics.
- Experience with gravity concentration circuits, ideally Knelson concentrators, is a strong asset.
- Hands-on experience planning and conducting plant surveys, sampling campaigns, and mass balances.
- Strong data analysis skills, including Excel.
- Experience with process modeling software such as JKSimMet or similar tools is preferred. Training on FLSmidth proprietary sizing and simulation software will be provided.
- Comfortable working with process data, instrumentation, and digital monitoring platforms. Experience with online analytics or process control systems is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of slurry pumps, hydrocyclones, valves, and gravity concentrators from an operational perspective. Hands-on mechanical expertise is not required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with plant metallurgists, operators, site leadership, and sales teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% to 75% across the assigned region.
- Fluency in English preferred. Additional language requirements may apply depending on the assigned region.
