Title: Analyst Graphic Designer I – Medical Publications
Career Level: C3

About AstraZeneca
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialization of prescription medicines for some of the world’s most serious diseases. But we’re more than one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.

Introduction to role:
Are you ready to turn sophisticated clinical data into visuals that shape scientific dialogue and influence patient outcomes? This role puts you at the heart of how our science is seen, understood, and trusted across journals, congresses, and digital channels.
Based in Manyata Tech Park, Bengaluru (hybrid, three days on-site), you will collaborate with publication leads, medical writers, authors, and delivery teams. Your role involves translating clinical and scientific content into clear, accessible, publication-ready communications across multiple therapeutic areas and brands. Your craft will ensure our studies are interpreted accurately and confidently by reviewers, clinicians, and researchers worldwide.
You will join a global team that powers excellence across the enterprise, combining rigor with creativity. If you enjoy owning assets end-to-end, guiding design standards, and making precision your advantage, this role offers the autonomy and influence to raise the quality bar and scale good practice.

Accountabilities :
End-to-end Publication Design: Lead the full design and formatting workflow for congress posters, abstract supplements, encore abstracts, submission materials, manuscript figures and tables, graphical abstracts, supplementary materials, scientific presentations, and digital publication assets—delivering on time and to specification.
Scientific Narrative and Layout: Create publication-ready layouts that clearly communicate objectives, methods, results, and conclusions through visual hierarchy, readable typography, and an effective scientific storyline that stands up to peer review.
Data-true Redrawing and Vectorisation: Redraw and vectorise graphs, charts, diagrams, pathways, and low-resolution source artwork into accurate, editable, high-resolution graphics—preserving the underlying data, context, and scientific meaning.
Submission-ready Production: Prepare and adapt files so they meet the specifications of scholarly publications, publishing houses, and conference standards accurately, including dimensions, final-size readability, resolution, colour mode, typography, file format, naming, numbering, captions, and submission templates.
Rigorous Quality Assurance: Perform detailed checks across source data, manuscript text, labels, legends, tables, units, citations, visual consistency, and final artwork; promptly raise any scientific discrepancies to safeguard accuracy and integrity.
Build for Accessibility and Equity: Apply accessible practices—sufficient contrast, colour-blind-safe palettes, legible typography, clear labels, and non-colour cues—to ensure communication remains effective at final publication size.
Collaborator Teamwork: Partner from briefing through finalisation; clarify requirements, present design rationale, incorporate consolidated feedback, and maintain version control to keep projects moving smoothly.
Creative Direction and Standards: Provide practical feedback and best-practice guidance to designers and delivery partners while remaining accountable for the quality of your assigned deliverables.
Ensure assets align with corporate visual identity, medical and publication standards. Respect intellectual property rights, authorization, and image licensing. Maintain patient confidentiality and approved responsible-use rules for AI-assisted content.
Project and Capacity Management: Manage multiple projects across therapeutic areas and brands, estimate effort, prioritise workload, meet timelines, and communicate risks early to support planning.
Compose Systems and Scale: Develop and maintain SOPs, frameworks, modular elements, checklists, and mentorship documents to drive consistency, efficiency, and first-time-right delivery.

Essential Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
At least 3 years of creative-design experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, medical communications, scientific publishing, or a related regulated environment.
A strong portfolio demonstrating broad experience across diverse design formats, visual communication assets, and data visualisation techniques, including a wide range of chart types.
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft PowerPoint, including template creation, vector artwork, layout, typography, and production-ready file preparation.
Strong understanding of publication artwork production, including vector and raster formats, resolution, colour modes, image scaling, file optimisation, and editable source-file preparation.
Ability to interpret and apply journal, publisher, and congress artwork specifications, templates, and submission requirements accurately.
Strong scientific visual literacy and the ability to translate complex clinical and scientific information into clear visual communications while preserving data accuracy, context, and meaning.
Knowledge of accessible and inclusive scientific design, including colour-blind-safe palettes, contrast, legibility, clear labels, and effective communication at final publication size.
Experience working in structured publication review and approval workflows, incorporating consolidated feedback, maintaining version control, and delivering accurate final files to deadline.
Meticulous quality-control skills across figures, labels, legends, units, tables, references, image integrity, and consistency with approved scientific content.
Understanding of brand governance, publication ethics, copyright and permissions, confidentiality, and compliance expectations in a regulated environment.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with experience collaborating across medical, scientific, editorial, author, and cross-functional stakeholder groups.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, sound prioritisation, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across global teams and time zones.

Desirable Skills/Experience:
Experience with publication management, medical review, digital asset management, or workflow platforms.
Experience supporting multiple therapeutic areas and adapting scientific visuals for specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Experience developing design systems, templates, reusable components, or scalable publication-production workflows.
Working knowledge of Figma or similar collaboration tools; prototyping experience is advantageous where digital publication assets are in scope.
Experience with After Effects, Premiere Pro, motion graphics, or scientific video is advantageous but not essential.
Experience with specialist scientific illustration, data-visualisation, video editing or 3D tools is advantageous.
