About the role
About Us
Dyson has an opportunity for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join the Electrical Power Systems group.
The Electrical Power Systems group is a global and multidisciplinary team responsible for the development of Lithium-Ion battery management and power electronics systems. Dyson battery management systems provide the high-power energy sources required to power category-leading cordless, beauty and robot products.
As part of this group, we are looking to expand our Power Electronics and Battery Management System capability in China, supporting product development, manufacturing partners and joint-development activities.
About the Role
We are looking for a senior technical specialist who can provide technical leadership for power electronics and battery management system development, shape robust designs, raise engineering standards, and support the delivery of safe, reliable and high-performance products.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide technical leadership for power electronics and Battery Management System design across multiple projects, including battery pack integration, charging systems, protection architecture and power conversion.
- Own and steer the technical direction of assigned power electronics content, including architecture, design reviews, technical risk management, verification and validation, and production-intent delivery.
- Lead the development of robust BMS, SMPS, charger, DC/DC and other power conversion solutions meeting product, safety, EMC/EMI, reliability, quality and compliance requirements.
- Provide technical expertise in power semiconductor selection, circuit topology, thermal performance, sensing, protection strategy, system integration and engineering trade-offs.
- Identify and resolve complex technical risks early through structured engineering judgement, simulation, analysis, testing and data-driven root-cause investigation.
- Lead and participate in schematic, PCB layout, component selection, derating, thermal, EMC/EMI, reliability and design-for-manufacture reviews.
- Define and promote engineering best practices, design guidelines and technical standards to improve design quality, consistency and reuse.
- Contribute to BMS and power electronics platform development, enabling greater design reuse, shorter development cycles, improved cost competitiveness and robust safety governance.
- Work closely with Dyson global engineering teams and ODM/JDM/OEM/EMS partners and suppliers, providing technical direction and ensuring appropriate design governance.
- Lead technical engagement with manufacturing and joint-development partners, including design reviews, technical issue resolution, supplier assessment and manufacturing readiness.
- Ensure designs are manufacturable, testable and scalable from engineering prototypes through to mass production.
- Lead technical reviews and communicate complex engineering topics and recommendations clearly to engineers, project teams and senior stakeholders.
- Mentor and coach engineers, strengthening technical capability, engineering discipline and knowledge sharing within the China team and wider Electrical Power Systems organisation.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering tools, simulation, verification, validation, test methods and technical documentation.
- Take an active role in generating innovative ideas and developing new technology relevant to future Dyson products.
- Champion a culture of innovation, constructive technical challenge and accountability, with safety, reliability and engineering robustness at the centre of technical decisions.
About You
Working at the forefront of technology is demanding, and engineering standards and expectations are high. You will be expected to combine strong technical depth with practical product-development experience and the ability to influence engineers, suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders.
You should have:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Power Electronics, or a comparable discipline.
- More than 7 years of relevant industry experience in electronic design, power electronics, Battery Management Systems, or similar high-performance hardware development.
- Strong technical expertise in Battery Management Systems and secondary battery technologies, including protection, sensing, cell monitoring, power-path control, thermal management, battery safety and system integration.
- Proven experience developing power electronic products such as BMS, SMPS, chargers, DC/DC converters, inverters, motor drives or other high-power electronic systems.
- Strong understanding of power semiconductor devices and their practical application, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, diodes, gate drivers and protection devices.
- Strong understanding of schematic design, PCB layout, component selection, derating, creepage and clearance, thermal design and EMC/EMI mitigation.
- Experience with circuit and system simulation and analysis using tools such as SPICE, SiMetrix, MATLAB, Simulink or equivalent.
- Experience in hardware verification and validation, failure analysis, root-cause investigation, technical risk assessment and design assurance.
- Good understanding of designing products against applicable safety, reliability, thermal, EMC/EMI and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, challenge engineering assumptions constructively and make sound technical decisions.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers and raising technical capability beyond individual project delivery.
- Experience working with ODM/JDM/OEM/EMS suppliers, including technical reviews, supplier technical assessment, design governance and manufacturing readiness.
- Ability to work effectively within global, multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate with stakeholders across different technical disciplines.
- Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required to work with engineering, supplier and manufacturing partners.
- Experience establishing statements of work and collaborating with manufacturing or joint-development partners.
- Experience using AI-enabled or AI-augmented engineering workflows for hardware design, simulation, verification, validation, documentation or test automation would be advantageous.
- A creative, analytical and accountable approach to solving difficult engineering problems, with a strong focus on delivering robust and reliable products.
Above all, you will want to play a key technical role in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.
