About the role
Description
MuseHub is where millions of creators get their music tools: Muse Sounds, plugins, sample libraries and apps like MuseScore and Audacity, all in one desktop app and web storefront. We relaunched it this fall with ambitious goals, and now we’re looking for someone to own its backend.
Today MuseHub runs on its own Azure and .NET stack. Your mission is to move it onto the shared Muse platform (modern PHP), make it much faster, and then take full ownership of it. You’ll be the go-to backend engineer on a product team that ships fast.
We are actively integrating AI automation into relevant areas of the business and expect candidates with mindset focused on improving efficiency and deliver a better user experience.
Key responsibilities
- Own the MuseHub backend: catalog, search, accounts, orders and licences, the APIs behind the web storefront and the desktop app.
- Break TTFB down by layer (edge, application, database calls, the experiment-assignment request before render), write the diagnosis and fix the causes.
- Write the migration plan with a date per service, then move the backend from Azure to the Muse PHP stack on the shared Kubernetes platform, service by service, with no downtime for buyers.
- Move sign-in from Azure B2C to MuseID, including sign-up inside checkout.
- Move experiment assignment to the Muse A/B service.
- Set up monitoring, safe deploys and rollback in the shared Muse tooling.
- Work with the frontend developer on the Next.js storefront and with the desktop developer on the APIs the app uses.
- Review code, write tests for new code, and use AI coding tools in daily work.
Requirements
- 5+ years of modern PHP (8.0+) in production web backends
- Migrated a live product from one stack or cloud to another without downtime
- Database work: profiling, indexes, query plans, caching, queues and background jobs (MySQL)
- Production operations: logging, monitoring, debugging in prod, safe migrations, zero-downtime deploys
- Docker and Kubernetes
- Unit and integration tests, Git, code review, CI/CD
- Basics of PCI and PII compliance for payments and accounts
- Fluent English
Nice to have
- Yii2 or the Muse backend packages
- Can read C#/.NET, to take over the current backend
- Azure (App Service, Cosmos DB, Redis, B2C)
- Elasticsearch or another search engine
- OAuth/OIDC sign-in and payments (Stripe)
- Web performance: TTFB, caching at the edge, Cloudflare
- Uses AI coding assistants daily
