Role mandate
Help shape and deliver practical AI-enabled solutions for Commercial and Corporate Banking. This role combines business consulting, structured problem solving, stakeholder leadership, and hands-on use of AI tools. The Business Consultant will identify high-value opportunities and, critically, break ambiguous and complex business problems into manageable workstreams, planned requirements, clear deliverables, owners, dependencies, and realistic timelines. The role supports initiatives from discovery through implementation and adoption.
This is not a traditional requirements-only role. The Business Consultant is expected to operate as both a consultant and a delivery coordinator, stepping into project-management responsibilities when needed to maintain momentum, alignment, and accountability. The successful candidate must be intellectually curious about AI, comfortable learning as the technology evolves, and able to turn new capabilities into responsible, measurable business outcomes within a regulated banking environment.
What you will do
- Lead discovery with bankers, operations teams, product owners, risk partners, and technology teams to understand business objectives, pain points, workflows, decisions, data needs, and user experiences.
- Take ownership of ambiguous or loosely defined business problems. Establish clarity by separating symptoms from root causes, defining the problem and desired outcome, testing assumptions, and breaking the work into manageable, sequenced requirements and deliverables.
- Build practical workplans that identify activities, milestones, timelines, dependencies, decisions, owners, risks, and next steps, then actively manage progress against the plan.
- Identify and assess AI, GenAI, intelligent automation, and decision-support opportunities based on business value, feasibility, data readiness, user impact, risk, and implementation effort.
- Use AI tools directly to accelerate research, analysis, synthesis, process design, requirements development, communications, and other knowledge-work activities, while applying appropriate judgment and controls.
- Translate business needs into clear target-state concepts, business requirements, process maps, user journeys, use cases, user stories, acceptance criteria, and sequenced roadmaps.
- Develop concise executive-ready materials, including recommendations, decision papers, status updates, presentations, and business cases that clearly explain the problem, proposed approach, trade-offs, risks, and expected value.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate working sessions, decision forums, and cross-functional discussions. Prepare agendas and materials, guide the discussion, document decisions, assign actions, and follow through to closure.
- Act as a delivery coordinator or project manager when required by managing timelines, dependencies, risks, issues, stakeholder commitments, and status reporting to keep initiatives moving.
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences and drive stakeholders toward clear decisions and accountable next steps.
- Partner with delivery teams to refine scope, prioritize backlogs, resolve ambiguity, support solution design, and maintain alignment between business intent and delivered outcomes.
- Coordinate business validation and UAT, including test scenarios, defect triage, stakeholder communication, readiness assessment, and sign-off.
- Assess change impacts and support communications, training, adoption, and feedback loops so solutions are understood, trusted, and used.
- Embed responsible AI, privacy, data, security, risk, compliance, and governance considerations throughout the initiative lifecycle.
- Monitor the evolving AI landscape and proactively bring forward relevant capabilities, limitations, use cases, and implications for banking.
Non-negotiable requirements
- Applied AI experience: You have personally used AI tools in a work, academic, entrepreneurial, or project setting. Examples may include Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot Studio, AI-enabled analytics or automation tools, or comparable platforms. You can explain what you used, the problem it addressed, your approach, the outcome, and the limitations or risks you encountered.
- Genuine AI curiosity: You actively follow how AI is evolving, experiment with new capabilities, and can form a thoughtful view of where AI creates value and where human judgment and controls remain essential. Deep AI engineering experience is not required, but passive interest is not sufficient.
- Exceptional communication: You communicate clearly, directly, and with good judgment in writing and verbally. You can simplify complex topics without losing meaning, tailor messages to executives, business partners, risk teams, and technologists, and facilitate productive conversations when views differ.
- Structured problem solving and planning: You are logical, analytical, and highly effective in ambiguity. You can take an unclear business problem, determine what must be known and decided, and decompose it into manageable workstreams, planned requirements, milestones, dependencies, owners, and next steps. This capability is central to success in the role.
- Delivery coordination: You can move fluidly between consulting, business analysis, facilitation, and light project management. You coordinate people and activities, manage timelines and dependencies, surface risks early, maintain action logs, and follow through until decisions and deliverables are complete.
- Independent execution: You organize your work, manage competing priorities, follow through on commitments, and produce high-quality deliverables with limited direction while knowing when to escalate risks or seek input.
Required experience and capabilities
- Typically 5–7 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Deep knowledge and technical proficiency developed through extensive education and business experience.
- Progressive experience in business consulting, business analysis, product, transformation, strategy, process improvement, or a comparable role in a complex enterprise environment.
- Demonstrated experience taking ambiguous business problems, creating structure, and translating them into manageable workstreams, planned requirements, prioritized deliverables, owners, dependencies, and timelines.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating cross-functional delivery, facilitating discussions, managing action items and timelines, and providing clear status, risk, and decision updates.
- Experience creating clear process maps, business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, roadmaps, executive presentations, and decision-oriented communications.
- Ability to define a target-state vision and decompose it into incremental, prioritized capabilities that can be delivered and adopted.
- Experience supporting implementation, testing, business validation, change readiness, and user adoption.
- Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills, including the ability to create alignment across business, technology, data, risk, compliance, and governance partners.
- Working knowledge of Agile delivery and comfort collaborating with product owners, project managers, architects, developers, data teams, and control functions.
- Sound understanding of enterprise AI concepts and use cases, including GenAI, machine learning, intelligent automation, decision support, data dependencies, model limitations, responsible AI, and human oversight. Working knowledge of responsible AI principles and the ability to navigate enterprise AI governance processes, including relevant risk, privacy, security, compliance, and approval requirements.
What success looks like
- Ambiguous business problems are rapidly converted into a shared problem definition and a manageable plan of sequenced requirements, deliverables, milestones, owners, dependencies, and decisions.
- Business problems are supported by evidence and tied to measurable outcomes such as efficiency, revenue enablement, user experience, or risk mitigation.
- AI opportunities are practical, responsibly designed, and prioritized based on value, feasibility, data readiness, adoption needs, and risk.
- Executives and delivery teams receive concise, decision-ready materials with clear recommendations, trade-offs, owners, and next steps.
- Requirements and target-state designs are unambiguous, traceable to business objectives, and understood by both business and technical teams.
- Initiatives progress with strong stakeholder alignment, timely issue resolution, effective business validation, and sustained user adoption.
- The role continuously improves how the team applies AI to its own work and shares practical learnings with others.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in financial services, Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, credit, lending, onboarding, sales enablement, or another regulated environment.
- Experience assessing or delivering AI, GenAI, automation, analytics, digital transformation, or data-enabled initiatives.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI capabilities, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools.
- Exposure to responsible AI, model risk, privacy, data governance, security, or operational risk processes.
- Experience developing business cases or benefits measures and tracking outcomes after implementation.
