Are you obsessed with what’s happening in culture—and always thinking about how PETA can be part of the conversation? Do you know how to turn bold ideas into attention-grabbing campaigns, experiences, and moments that people want to talk about and share? PETA is looking for a Director of Culture & Experiential Marketing to lead a new team focused on creating innovative, culturally relevant projects that put animal rights into the cultural conversation.
Position Objective:
To lead PETA’s Culture & Experiential Marketing team in developing and executing bold marketing projects—including activations, guerrilla stunts, installations, emerging-technology projects, advertising, and other attention-grabbing initiatives—that engage audiences, generate media and social conversation, and advance PETA’s campaigns.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Lead and develop PETA’s Culture & Experiential Marketing team, including supervising and mentoring staff
• Identify opportunities for PETA to enter cultural conversations and reach Gen Z and Millennial audiences in fresh, unexpected, and compelling ways
• Bring together culturally plugged-in staff and other internal voices to identify trends, generate ideas, and turn cultural insights into actionable projects
• Set the strategy, priorities, and project pipeline for bold, culturally relevant projects, ensuring strong concepts move from idea through approval, production, launch, and evaluation
• Determine when projects should be developed and executed internally and when outside expertise can expand PETA’s capabilities or impact
• Identify and lead relationships with advertising agencies, guerrilla and experiential marketing companies, youth marketing firms, and other outside resources
• Collaborate closely with Marketing, Communications, Media Relations, Campaigns, and creative teams to maximize the earned media and social media reach and impact of projects
• Stay deeply informed about cultural trends, emerging technologies and platforms, advertising, experiential marketing, entertainment, youth culture, and innovative work from brands and creative organizations
• Foster experimentation and calculated risk-taking, moving quickly on strong opportunities while balancing creative ambition with budgets, feasibility, safety, and organizational considerations
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of seven years of experience in marketing, advertising, experiential marketing, creative strategy, brand marketing, advocacy campaigns, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing bold, unconventional, or culturally relevant marketing campaigns or public-facing projects
• Proven management experience and ability to lead creative staff and complex projects
• Strong knowledge of contemporary culture and what resonates with Gen Z and Millennial audiences
• Experience working effectively with advertising, experiential, creative, production, or other outside agencies and partners
• Proven ability to recognize strong creative ideas and turn them into compelling, achievable projects
• Strong understanding of social media, earned media, and how campaigns and real-world moments generate conversation across platforms
• Strategic thinker with excellent project-management skills and the ability to move quickly, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities and budgets
• Excellent judgment and demonstrated ability to make decisions in fast-moving, high-pressure, or ambiguous situations
• Excellent leadership, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Extensive knowledge of animal rights issues and PETA campaigns
• Commitment to the objectives of the organization
• Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
