Environmental Manager
We are Lennar
Lennar is one of the nation's leading homebuilders, dedicated to making an impact and creating an extraordinary experience for their Homeowners, Communities, and Associates by building quality homes and providing exceptional customer service, giving back to the communities in which we work and live in, and fostering a culture of opportunity and growth for our Associates throughout their career. Lennar has been recognized as a Fortune 500® company and consistently ranked among the top homebuilders in the United States.
A Career that Empowers You to Build Your Future
As a National Estimating Manager, you will serve as a subject matter authority responsible for independently managing Lennar's environmental compliance and occupational safety programs across active construction sites, land development operations, and corporate facilities. This role plays a critical part in protecting Lennar's Associates, communities, and business interests by ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations throughout the full lifecycle of homebuilding operations. By identifying risk exposures, driving proactive corrective action, and advising operational leadership on regulatory matters, you will directly support Lennar's commitment to building responsibly and sustainably in every market we serve.
Your Responsibilities on the Team
- Independently manage end-to-end environmental and safety compliance programs for assigned divisions or regions, including the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and standards aligned with OSHA, EPA, and applicable state regulatory frameworks governing residential construction operations.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and job hazard analyses across active land development and home construction sites, identifying exposure points related to stormwater management, hazardous materials, fall protection, trenching and excavation, and other high-risk activities specific to the homebuilding environment.
- Serve as the primary technical resource and advisor to division presidents, construction managers, and field leadership on environmental permitting requirements, including the preparation and oversight of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), NPDES permit compliance, and spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
- Lead incident investigation processes for safety events and near-miss occurrences, applying root cause analysis methodologies to develop corrective and preventive action plans, ensure timely OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, and track closure of findings through to verified completion.
- Design and deliver targeted environmental and safety training programs for field Associates, trade partners, and subcontractors, ensuring content is tailored to specific site conditions, regulatory obligations, and Lennar's internal safety culture standards, and that training completion is documented and maintained in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor evolving federal, state, and local environmental and occupational safety regulations to assess their potential impact on Lennar's construction operations, proactively communicating regulatory changes to division leadership and recommending operational adjustments to maintain full compliance ahead of effective dates.
- Perform scheduled and unannounced compliance audits of active construction sites and land development areas, producing detailed written audit reports that quantify risk levels, document deficiencies with photographic evidence, and prescribe prioritized remediation actions with assigned accountability and completion timelines.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Land Acquisition, Construction, Legal, and Purchasing teams to integrate environmental and safety risk considerations into project planning, due diligence reviews, and subcontractor qualification processes, ensuring that risk management is embedded at the earliest stages of project development rather than addressed reactively in the field.
Your Toolbox
- Bachelor's degree required in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field; an advanced degree, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Registered Environmental Manager (REM) designation is strongly preferred.
- Five to eight years of progressive experience in environmental compliance, occupational safety, or a combined EHS role, with demonstrated experience in the construction, land development, or homebuilding industry highly preferred.
- In-depth working knowledge of OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926), EPA stormwater regulations, NPDES permitting, SWPPP development and inspection protocols, and hazardous materials management requirements applicable to residential construction operations.
- Proven ability to independently manage complex, multi-site compliance programs with competing priorities and regulatory deadlines, exercising sound professional judgment in assessing risk severity and determining appropriate corrective action without requiring day-to-day direction.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, including proficiency in root cause analysis techniques, incident investigation methodologies, and the ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable written reports and presentations for both field and executive audiences.
- Demonstrated experience conducting environmental and safety audits, developing audit tools and scoring frameworks, and managing corrective action tracking systems to ensure findings are resolved within defined timeframes and documented in a defensible manner.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence compliance behaviors among field construction personnel, trade partners, and senior operational leaders who are not environmental or safety specialists.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data tracking and trend analysis, Word for technical report writing, and PowerPoint for training and leadership presentations; familiarity with EHS management software platforms is a plus.
Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements
This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the incumbent to have the ability to operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, and move and carry up to 25 lbs. Finger dexterity is necessary.
