About the role
Antenna Associates, Inc. (AAI), a Diamond Antenna and Microwave company in Brockton, MA, is hiring a hands-on RF Antenna Engineer. You will design, analyze, test and calibrate antennas for both commercial and military surveillance radar and communications systems. This is an individual-contributor technical role in a small team, where engineers spend real time in the lab and test booth, in addition to time at a simulation workstation.
Requirements
Key responsibilities
• Design and develop new antennas and improve existing antenna designs for performance, reliability and manufacturability.
• Evaluate antenna performance: gain, radiation patterns, beamwidth, polarization, VSWR/return loss, isolation and phase matching.
• Build RF models and run simulations in HFSS, CST, ADS or similar tools, and correlate results with measured data.
• Perform hands-on testing and calibration of antennas and RF assemblies using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, signal generators and power meters.
• Support antenna range and test booth measurements, including test setup, fixturing and data reduction.
• Troubleshoot RF performance issues in production and qualification, and drive root cause and corrective action.
• Write and maintain test procedures, calibration procedures, test reports, design notes and ECOs under configuration control.
• Work closely with mechanical engineers, production, test technicians and quality on prototypes, production builds and nonconformances.
• Support RF printed circuit board and feed network design, including material selection and layout review.
Required qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with an RF/microwave or electromagnetics focus, or similar.
• 4–7 years of RF engineering experience, with direct antenna design or antenna test experience.
• Deep knowledge of calibration methods and RF measurement techniques.
• Hands-on proficiency with RF test equipment: VNA, spectrum analyzer, signal generator and power meter.
• Working experience with HFSS, CST, ADS or an equivalent EM simulation tool.
• Solid grasp of electromagnetic theory, transmission lines, impedance matching and RF packaging.
• Willingness to spend a large share of time in the lab and on the production floor testing, tuning and calibrating hardware.
• Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR 120.62) due to access to export-controlled technical data.
Preferred (a plus)
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/microwave focus.
• Experience with Diamond Antenna and Microwave product types: RF rotary joints, slip rings, fiber optic rotary joints (FORJ) and related electromechanical assemblies.
• Antenna range experience (near-field or far-field) and pattern measurement.
• Microwave and millimeter-wave design or test experience.
• Defense or aerospace background, with working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR/CUI and configuration-controlled engineering.
• Experience in a small company where engineers cover design, test and production support.
