What's the role?
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Credit Risk Limits team without needing deep credit risk domain knowledge. It gives you the chance to build that experience while working across modern engineering, AI and Financial Markets technology.
The role sits within the Credit Risk Limits squad in the Trusted Markets Release Train, supporting Westpac Institutional Bank’s Financial Markets business.
You’ll work across counterparty and pre-settlement credit risk technology, including limits management, reporting and trading platforms such as Murex and Calypso.
It’s a hands-on engineering role where you’ll have end-to-end ownership across design, development, automated testing, release and production support.
AI engineering is a key part of the role. You’ll build AI-enabled tools and agents to improve how the team investigates issues, tests solutions, reconciles data and operates its credit risk platforms.
You don’t need to be a credit risk expert or have extensive experience building AI agents. They’re looking for someone who is curious, self-motivated and comfortable learning by doing, with the opportunity to build your credit risk knowledge as you develop in the role.
Key Responsibilities?
- Build AI-enabled tools and agents to automate investigations, data quality checks, reconciliations and testing across credit risk.
- Prototype emerging AI approaches and turn successful ideas into controlled, production-ready solutions.
- Own product and regulatory change end-to-end, including APS180, from requirements and design through to testing and release.
- Build and support integrations and batch/EOD data flows across Murex, Calypso, exposure, limits and reporting platforms.
- Support cloud/mesh platforms, CI/CD, automated testing and production troubleshooting, fixing root causes and reducing recurring issues.
- Build your knowledge of credit risk and work closely with Front Office, Technology, business users and vendors to deliver effective solutions.
What do I need?
- 2–5 years’ experience in software, data or platform engineering, ideally with a relevant technology or engineering qualification.
- Python, SQL and scripting skills, with the willingness to learn new languages, applications and platforms.
- Good DevOps fundamentals, including CI/CD, automated testing, environment builds and exposure to cloud or mesh platforms.
- Genuine interest in AI engineering, particularly using AI in your day-to-day work and wanting to build AI-enabled tools and agents.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience across data mapping, feeds and batch/EOD processing.
- Interest in building credit risk knowledge. Experience with Murex, Calypso, credit risk concepts, Jira or Confluence is beneficial but not essential.
