We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, creating a community where colleagues feel respected and valued. We aim to reflect the diversity of our students and communities, and to strengthen our university through collaboration and diverse perspectives, across all roles at the University.
This is a fixed-term opportunity based within the Centre for Biomedicine, Hull York Medical School, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Hull.
Founded in 1927, the University of Hull has a long and proud history as one of England's oldest universities. Through our teaching, research and civic engagement, we are helping to shape and deliver the future prosperity of our region and beyond. The global perspective and expertise of our talented people, together with our dynamic collaborations with partners locally, nationally and internationally, enable us to enrich lives, address societal challenges, and develop solutions with global impact.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in Forensic Science to join the Centre for Biomedicine and contribute to the delivery and continued development of our accredited BSc (Hons) Forensic Science and MSc Forensic Science programmes. The successful candidate will bring expertise in forensic chemical analysis, including the analysis of drugs and forensic toxicology, although applicants with complementary forensic science specialisms are also encouraged to apply.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across both programmes, you will deliver high-quality teaching through lectures, laboratory practicals, tutorials and workshops, supporting students at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will contribute to assessment and feedback, supervise student research projects, and support the development of learning materials and curriculum content that reflect current forensic science practice and professional standards.
You will help students develop a critical understanding of forensic analytical techniques, including method selection, validation, interpretation of results and the communication of scientific evidence within forensic investigations. You will also contribute to maintaining the high standards expected of professionally accredited forensic science programmes and participate fully in the wider academic life of the School and University.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Forensic Science, Analytical Chemistry, Toxicology or a related discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional expertise as a forensic practitioner. You will have the subject knowledge and communication skills to teach complex scientific concepts effectively to diverse student audiences and a commitment to delivering an excellent student experience. Experience of teaching, training or mentoring within either higher education or professional practice would be advantageous.
We welcome applications from candidates with academic, industry or practitioner backgrounds who can bring contemporary forensic science expertise into the classroom and laboratory. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape the next generation of forensic scientists while joining a supportive academic community that values innovation in teaching, collaboration and professional development. Successful appointees will benefit from mentoring and access to development opportunities through the University's teaching and learning networks.
