Job Description:
At bp Trading & Shipping, our purpose is to bring together people, energy and markets to help power and navigate a changing world. We connect bp and our customers to global energy markets. Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.
About the role:
As a Marine Advisor, Trading Support, you will join bp’s Marine Trading Support team and provide specialist marine and technical advice to our LNG trading, origination and operations teams. This is a varied position that goes beyond traditional marine assurance. You will work across the full lifecycle of commercial opportunities, from early contractual reviews and negotiations through to trading activity, vessel operations, port assessments and the safe delivery of cargo.
You will support operated and third-party vessels, helping our teams manage ship-to-shore interfaces, shipping assurance requirements and operational or commercial challenges. Your expertise will contribute to safe, practical and commercially sound decisions in a dynamic global trading environment.
What you will do:
- Provide technical and operational support to LNG trading teams, including ship-to-shore compatibility assessments and LNG shipping matters within commercial contracts.
- Advise trading and operations teams on LNG cargo transfers, terminal operations and related commercial matters requiring a marine or technical solution.
- Support origination and trading activities by reviewing marine and shipping clauses and contributing technical insight during commercial negotiations.
- Assess terminal facilities, ship-to-ship transfer providers and other marine services against relevant safety, assurance and operational standards.
- Act as a key contact for designated gas ports and terminals, helping resolve ship-to-shore interface issues and review the delivery of marine services.
- Provide subject-matter expertise across specialist areas such as ship-to-ship transfers, tugs, pilotage, voyage optimisation and marine cargo transportation.
- Support the resolution of disputes and claims relating to LNG shipping and marine operations.
- Contribute marine expertise to LNG and LPG projects at different stages, from early concept through to start-up.
- Provide marine input into incident investigations and support emergency-response activities when required.
- Participate in relevant government and industry forums and build effective relationships with internal and external partners.
- Share knowledge, improve working practices and support greater consistency across global assessment and inspection activities.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
- Class II/2 or III/2 (Master/Chief Mate or Chief Engineer) and experience as Master/Chief Officer or Chief Engineer on board LNG tankers or relevant experience with LNG shipping on shore.

- Clear communication skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with trading teams, operators, project teams, vessel personnel, terminals and other partners.
- The ability to adapt, prioritise and respond effectively when business or operational requirements change.
The position requires broad marine and operational understanding rather than experience limited solely to vessel vetting or risk assessment.

- Knowledge of key international guidelines related to shipping and marine assurance
- Knowledge of FSRUs/ FLNG
- Lead Auditor qualification
