Position Summary
onsemi is seeking a hands-on Senior System Engineer to lead the architecture and development of next-generation power systems for AI and hyperscale data centers. The role spans AC-DC front ends, HVDC distribution, DC-DC conversion, and point-of-load delivery, using advanced silicon, SiC, JFET, and GaN technologies. The ideal candidate combines deep power-electronics expertise with technical leadership, customer insight, and a track record of translating market needs into efficient, high-density, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead system architecture for next-generation AI server and hyperscale data-center power platforms.
- Develop AC-DC, HVDC, DC-DC, and point-of-load solutions across PSUs, BBUs, and CBUs, from hundreds of watts to 100 kW+.
- Translate customer, application, and market requirements into system specifications and semiconductor technology roadmaps.
- Optimize efficiency, power density, thermal performance, reliability, protection, and cost at the system level.
- Select and apply Si MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC MOSFETs, SiC JFETs, and GaN devices; guide magnetics, controls, and advanced-packaging tradeoffs.
- Lead hands-on hardware bring-up, validation, debugging, and root-cause resolution.
- Provide technical direction across engineering, applications, product, and marketing teams, and influence customers and partners.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of power-electronics experience, including system architecture from several hundred watts to 100 kW+.
- Deep expertise in AC-DC and DC-DC topologies, controls, magnetics, protection, and silicon, SiC, JFET, and GaN power devices.
- Strong capability in electrical and thermal modeling, simulation, laboratory validation, and hardware debugging.
- Proficiency with SPICE, SIMPLIS, PLECS, MATLAB, or comparable tools.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical teams and making high-impact architectural decisions in evolving environments.
- Excellent customer-facing communication, with the ability to uncover needs and convert complex concepts into clear, actionable specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with AI servers, hyperscale data centers, or adjacent high-power industrial and automotive systems.
- Experience with 48V/54V distribution, ±400V or 800V HVDC architectures, high-power PSUs, BBUs, and CBUs.
- Proven application of wide-bandgap devices, especially SiC and GaN, in high-efficiency, high-density, and high-reliability designs.
- Experience partnering with hyperscalers, OEMs, server manufacturers, power-supply providers, or semiconductor companies.
- Ability to influence product and technology roadmaps across internal teams, customers, and external partners.
Desired Traits
- Hands-on, self-directed engineer with strong judgment and an execution mindset.
- Collaborative technical leader who drives clarity, innovation, and engineering excellence.
- Clear communicator who can lead through influence in a fast-paced environment.
