The Role
The Lim Lab in the RNA Division of the Research Department is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow to spearhead a project aiming at identifying and characterizing novel mobile elements that drive sequence diversity and molecular innovation. This position offers exceptional freedom to pursue bold biological questions, supported by NEB’s unique research ecosystem, state-of-the-art facilities, and extensive opportunities for academic and industrial collaboration. You will be supported in publishing your discoveries in high-impact journals and showcasing your work at scientific conferences. We are looking for candidates who enjoy the unpredictable nature of scientific exploration to join our tight-knit and collaborative team.
How you’ll contribute:
- Design and implement bioinformatic or functional screens to discover novel systems.
- Reconstitute target molecular systems for in cellulo and in vitro functional analysis.
- Communicate research findings through peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and through presentations at internal and external meetings.
- Actively participate in daily lab discourse, mentor junior team members, and maintain rigorous, reproducible research records.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Ph.D. in microbiology, biochemistry, structural biology or a related discipline.
- Deep technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: microbial genetics, next-generation sequencing, biochemistry, or structural biology.
- Proven track record of creative problem-solving and innovative experimental design.
- Eagerness to adopt, invent, and refine novel technologies and methodologies.
- Familiarity with mobile genetic elements.
- Strong organizational habits, precision in experimental execution, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
This role is perfect for you if:
- You thrive in a close-knit group setting where scientific data, hypotheses, and bold ideas are freely shared and debated daily.
- You view unexpected results or "failed" controls as opportunities rather than roadblocks.
Interested candidates should submit a CV and a cover letter articulating:
- What you consider your most significant scientific accomplishment.
- Why our lab is the right environment to launch the next phase of your career.
- One new technique, system, or research direction you would be excited to pursue in our group.
Estimated base salary for a Postdoctoral Fellow is $74,000
