Job Summary:
We are hiring a Product Manager to own our space management and GIS product line across AiM and ReADY. This is the part of our portfolio where a university's space inventory meets its campus map: room inventories and space surveys that drive indirect cost recovery and state reporting, CAD floor plans that need to become GIS feature layers, and a map viewer (Visualize) that puts AiM data on Esri's ArcGIS platform.
This is not a generalist product role. You already know how ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise work, you can explain why a CAD floor plan lands in the middle of the ocean until someone georeferences it, and you have sat in the room (on either side of the table) while a university worked through a space survey. You will be the person at AssetWorks who understands the whole workflow end to end and who teaches it to engineering, services, sales, and customers.
The line has momentum and open questions in equal measure. We are rebuilding the ReADY space survey and moving Visualize to our modern stack. We have a CAD-to-GIS conversion toolkit, built with a partner and proven at a large university, that needs to become a repeatable offering. We have customers asking for Revit support, assets on the map, mass updates from the map, and mechanical and electrical layers. And Esri's own indoor GIS products are changing how universities think about space systems. You will set the roadmap that answers those questions and carry it through delivery.
Job Description:
What You'll Do
- Own the Space & GIS roadmap across AiM and ReADY: strategy, prioritization, PRDs, backlog, release scope, and the metrics that tell us it is working.
- Run discovery with the universities that have the richest signal on space surveys, single room updates, property type surveys, and state reporting, and turn what you learn into prioritized requirements.
- Be our authority on Esri: feature services and hosted layers, the ArcGIS Indoors information model and floor-aware maps, credits and user types, OAuth 2.0 client credentials and API keys, and what does and does not require an Indoors license.
- Productize the CAD-to-GIS on-ramp with our partner: georeferencing configuration, the ArcGIS Pro toolbox, hosted feature layer publishing, the drawing-prep service, and the Revit/BIM path.
- Set the technical posture with engineering on caching, performance of large detail layers, sync frequency, and Esri terms of use, and be able to defend those choices to customers and to Esri.
- Build the internal enablement kit so that services can scope a Visualize implementation and sales can qualify a prospect without you in the room.
- Define customer-fit criteria: which institutions are ready for map-based space management today, and which need a different path first.
- Manage our GIS partner relationship and our working relationship with Esri; support RFP responses and pre-sales discovery.
- Stand up a Space & GIS customer council to keep signal flowing and pressure-test the roadmap.
- Work AI-natively: use AI tooling daily in your product practice, and shape our point of view on where natural language and agentic map exploration fit into space management.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years owning software outcomes as a product manager, solutions engineer, or campus space/GIS practitioner who has led feature delivery or platform migrations.
- 3+ years hands-on with Esri ArcGIS (Online and/or Enterprise): you have published feature services, configured floor-aware maps or comparable data models, and worked with Esri authentication and licensing.
- Direct exposure to higher education space management: space inventory, space surveys, FICM coding, F&A/indirect cost recovery, or state facilities reporting, as a practitioner or as a vendor/consultant.
- CAD/BIM literacy: you understand what an AutoCAD floor plan contains, why it is not georeferenced, and what Revit or IFC adds. You do not need to draft.
- Comfort owning capabilities that live in two codebases (an established Java platform and a modern JavaScript stack) and making the integration behavior explicit.
- Experience running partner or vendor relationships and customer advisory groups; you communicate trade-offs to executives and technical detail to engineers.
- Demonstrated use of AI tools in product work and a grounded view of where they help.
- Excellent writing. You are the person who writes the document that ends the debate.
- Bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, planning, architecture, computer science, or equivalent experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with an IWMS/CAFM space module (AiM, Archibus, Planon, FM:Systems, FAMIS, TMA, Nuvolo) and its GIS or CAD integrations.
- Participation in the campus GIS and facilities technology community (CFTA, Esri Education Summit, Esri UC, APPA, SCUP).
- SQL and Python literacy; comfort reading a geoprocessing script or a REST response.
- Accessibility awareness (ADA Title II / WCAG) for map-based interfaces.
- Exposure to indoor mapping and wayfinding platforms, occupancy analytics, or academic scheduling systems.
Why This Role
- Real ownership. One product manager, one product line, decisions that are yours to make and see through.
- A domain that matters. Space is a university's second largest resource after people, and the pressures on it (utilization, deferred maintenance, indirect cost recovery) have never been higher.
- A platform you already know. We build on Esri and we want someone who speaks it natively.
- Durability. We are a buy-and-hold software company. We hire for the third year of a product line, not the first quarter.
