BXTI – Risk & Compliance Technology
Business Description
Blackstone Technology & Innovations (BXTi) is the technology team at the core of each of Blackstone’s businesses and new growth initiatives. Serving both internal and external clients, we work to build the next generation of systems that manage risk, create efficiency and improve transparency within the firm and across our broad community of investors and portfolio companies.
BXTi is nimble and entrepreneurial – our open, iterative design processes and rapid pace of development mean that everyone on the team has the opportunity to make an impact from day one. We are problem solvers who can take projects from idea to implementation. We believe in active mentoring and developing excellence. We collaborate to find the best answers for our customers and for Blackstone. We are critical to the firm maintaining its competitive edge.
Job Description
The Risk & Compliance Technology team builds and maintains the firm’s investment compliance platform technology that helps ensure Blackstone’s investment portfolios are managed in line with client and regulatory guidelines across our credit and insurance strategies. The new hire will be a key member of the team developing and supporting mission-critical software used across pre-trade and post-trade compliance monitoring.
Our applications are built on a modern, highly scalable cloud-based microservice architecture. We work across the full stack from data ingestion and processing through rich, interactive web front ends using contemporary web, backend, and cloud technologies.
Our team has transitioned to an AI-first engineering methodology. AI is embedded across our entire development lifecycle from writing, reviewing, and testing code to diagnosing issues and directly within the products we build. We work with large language models, agentic tooling, and retrieval-augmented generation as first-class parts of our stack, and we expect every engineer to leverage and extend these capabilities. The successful candidate will not only use AI to accelerate their own work but will help design and grow the AI-driven features at the heart of our compliance platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support the firm’s investment compliance platform end-to-end — from data processing through to the web front-end ensuring code quality, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Design, build, and extend the platform’s AI-driven capabilities.
- Adopt and champion an AI-first engineering methodology — leveraging AI coding assistants and agentic tooling to accelerate development, code review, testing, and diagnostics.
- Design and implement new features across the compliance workflow.
- Build and integrate web applications, microservices, and data pipelines on AWS.
- Write automated unit, integration, and deployment tests, and utilize standard CI/CD tooling to build and deploy application code across environments.
- Ensure the integrity and correctness of compliance processing, working closely with compliance and risk stakeholders.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues by correlating platform behavior with code-level root causes.
- Lead technical design and code reviews, participate in Agile ceremonies, and manage delivery.
- Provide technical support, automate repetitive tasks, and stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, particularly in AI and large language models.
- Mentor and train junior developers, contribute to a collaborative team culture, and demonstrate a willingness to learn from others.
Qualifications
Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.
- 10+ years of proven software engineering experience in a relevant industry, with proficiency in Python and/or C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, databases (relational and/or NoSQL), and cloud technologies, preferably AWS (ECS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, SNS/SQS).
- An AI-first mindset — hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agentic tools to accelerate development, and enthusiasm for embedding AI at the core of the products we build.
- Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features — such as AI agents, tool/function calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or prompt engineering — is a strong plus.
- Experience as a hands-on tech lead, collaborating effectively with business stakeholders, compliance officers, product managers, UX designers, and other tech leads.
- Experience with RESTful and/or GraphQL API design, development, and scalable microservice architectures.
- Ability to develop scalable, secure, and maintainable code, with a strong background in functional programming.
- Experience designing or maintaining rules engines, data pipelines, or data-enrichment workflows is a strong plus.
- Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude, willing to teach and mentor others, and a desire to work in a dynamic team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication skills.
- Experience with automation testing and performance testing approaches.
- Experience/knowledge of investment compliance, credit markets, portfolio management, or regulatory monitoring is a very strong plus.
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc/BA) or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
