About the role
Job Description Summary
GE Vernova is a global energy technology company, operating in more than 100 countries with revenues exceeding $35 billion. Our Wind, Grid Solutions and Gas Power businesses supply the technology that the UK needs to connect new clean power to the grid. This role offers the chance to influence UK energy policy and shape the future of critical infrastructure.
We are seeking a strategic and influential professional Senior Manager to drive our engagement with the UK Government, Parliament, and regulators. You will be the principal architect of our UK political and regulatory strategy. You will represent GE Vernova with Ministers, MPs, senior civil servants and regulators, and help create the conditions for investment in our Wind, Grid Solutions and Gas Power businesses. You will also support our positioning on nuclear new-build, including our Small Modular Reactor technology.
Reporting to the Government Affairs Leader for Europe, this is a highly visible role offering significant autonomy and the opportunity to influence decisionmakers at the highest levels of Government and industry.
This is a hybrid position where you will work 2/3 days a week from our London Hammersmith office, with occasional travel across Europe and the USA as required.
Job Description
- Government and regulatory engagement: Build and sustain a senior network of Ministers, MPs, civil servants and regulators across Whitehall, Parliament, DESNZ, Ofgem and the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), to advance our priorities in the UK energy sector.
- Policy strategy: Shape our position on key UK policy frameworks, including Contracts for Difference (CfDs), grid connection reform, offshore wind consenting and Net Zero legislation.
- Strategic advice: Provide strategic counsel to UK business leaders and the European Government Affairs team on political risk, policy opportunities and legislative developments, including early warning of what is coming.
- Business partnership: Work with the Wind, Grid Solutions and Gas Power leaders so that external engagement supports commercial priorities. Share insight with the European Government Affairs team.
- Nuclear: Support engagement on the UK's nuclear new-build agenda, including advocacy for our Small Modular Reactor technology, as part of a broader policy portfolio.
- Reputation and visibility: Develop engagement plans and messaging with Corporate Communications. Act as a spokesperson at conferences, roundtables and policy forums, and represent the company in industry associations and business coalitions.
What you'll bring
- Significant, hands-on experience gained within Government Affairs, public affairs, consultancy, trade association, or a similarly complex policy environment with in-depth knowledge of how each makes decisions.
- In-depth understanding of how UK Government, Parliament and regulators make decisions, from policy development to legislation.
- Sound judgement in assessing complex political, legislative and regulatory issues in a commercial context, and in advising senior leaders on risk, reputation and external engagement.
- A proven track record of shaping national energy policy and engaging credibly with Ministers, senior officials and regulators.
- The ability to work autonomously, advise senior leaders, and manage ambiguity and changing priorities with integrity.
- Demonstrated executive presence and the credibility to operate effectively at the most senior levels of government and industry.
- A strategic, proactive mindset, with a proven ability to anticipate political and regulatory shifts and provide foresight.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including briefings, consultation responses, policy papers and speeches, with strong influencing and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently at senior level and collaborate across functions, regions and cultures.
- Work on a hybrid basis from our London Hammersmith office, with occasional travel across Europe and the USA as required
Good to have:
- Exposure to a broader range of policy areas, including infrastructure, industrial, economic, climate, or energy.
- Knowledge of UK energy policy, including Net Zero strategy, offshore wind, grid infrastructure reform, and nuclear policy.
- A master’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
