The Opportunity:

Position Summary
The Birth Registrar is responsible for the accurate and timely completion and submission of birth records, including birth certificates and paternity acknowledgements. The Birth Registrar works directly with parents, providers, and nursing staff to collect and verify required information in accordance with state regulations.
Schedule and Location

- Schedule: Either Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

- Primary locations: Johnson City Medical Center, Bristol Regional Medical Center, and Franklin Woods.

- Travel: Must be willing to travel to other Ballad birthing facilities to provide coverage as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Birth Certificates

- Interact with parents to collect and document birth information, deliver the appropriate forms, and guide them in completing the forms.

- Collect each data element from the parents and the patient chart to accurately and completely prepare the original birth certificate and ensure all birth certificate worksheets are complete and accurate.

- Answer and explain required certificate information to parents, families, and staff, including needed data and state regulations.

- Enter birth certificate information into the appropriate computer software program, review each completed certificate for completeness and accuracy, and transmit data in a timely manner as required by state law.

- Prepare verification of birth for every newborn.
Paternity Acknowledgement

- Offer unmarried parents the opportunity to acknowledge paternity voluntarily and provide informational materials to help them understand the process.

- Assist with the Acknowledgment of Paternity form, using patience, diplomacy, and sensitivity when there is conflict regarding parental responsibility.
Collaboration and Records Support

- Collaborate closely with providers and nursing as needed.

- Collect charts for courier pickup to be scanned.

- Check lock boxes and scan requests to Release of Information (ROI).
Requirements

- Must be a notary or obtain notary certification once hired.

- Ability to work either schedule listed above and travel to other facilities as needed.
