This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Strategic Business Development Lead, Private Equity based in the United States.
As Strategic Business Development Lead, Private Equity, you will help private equity firms and their portfolio companies evaluate and adopt an AI-powered financial planning and analysis (FP&A) platform. Combining finance expertise with technical sales execution, you will lead product demonstrations, technical evaluations, and proof-of-concept projects from initial discovery through final decision. You will serve as a trusted advisor to private equity sponsors, operating partners, and portfolio company CFOs, demonstrating how AI can simplify financial planning, reporting, and portfolio monitoring. You will design focused trials that prove value quickly, address complex financial workflows, and build confidence among senior decision-makers. Working closely with Go-to-Market, Product, and Engineering teams, you will also translate customer insights into stronger product positioning and roadmap improvements. This is a remote-first opportunity for an independent, commercially minded professional who enjoys combining financial modeling, emerging technology, and strategic relationship building.
Accountabilities
-
Lead product demonstrations and technical evaluations: Showcase AI-powered FP&A capabilities through tailored product demos, proof-of-concept projects, and detailed technical discussions, highlighting how the platform streamlines spreadsheet-heavy planning and sponsor reporting workflows.
-
Design and manage customer trials: Build and lead focused, short-cycle evaluations that demonstrate measurable value within days rather than months. Configure solutions, address complex use cases, answer detailed questions, and help prospects progress toward purchasing decisions.
-
Advise senior finance and investment stakeholders: Engage confidently with CFOs, private equity operating partners, and other senior decision-makers. Explain how AI can improve finance processes, translate technical capabilities into business outcomes, and establish credibility as a strategic partner.
-
Demonstrate financial expertise: Apply a strong understanding of financial planning, analysis, modeling, and portfolio monitoring to address prospect requirements and validate the platform's value in real-world finance workflows.
-
Connect customer needs with product strategy: Partner with Go-to-Market, Product, and Engineering teams to share market feedback, refine positioning, and inform product development, particularly around AI-first workflows and capabilities.
-
Support commercial growth: Help private equity firms and portfolio companies understand the platform's potential, build confidence through technical proof points, and advance opportunities through the evaluation process.
Requirements:
-
5+ years of experience on an investment or value creation team at a private equity firm, or in a finance role within a private equity-backed company.
-
Experience working with senior investment professionals and operating partners, with the confidence to engage directly with experienced finance leaders.
-
Strong financial modeling and spreadsheet skills, including the ability to build, analyze, and confidently explain financial models.
-
Solid understanding of financial planning and analysis, portfolio monitoring, and the reporting needs of private equity sponsors and portfolio companies.
-
Ability to translate fluently between finance concepts and technical product capabilities, connecting complex workflows to clear business value.
-
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to lead product demonstrations, manage technical evaluations, and respond effectively to challenging questions.
-
Curiosity about artificial intelligence and the ability to explain its practical applications and value to both enthusiastic adopters and skeptical stakeholders.
-
Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, taking initiative, and managing priorities independently.
-
Ability to work effectively as part of a remote, distributed team, with availability aligned to working hours across the Americas.
Nice to have:
-
Experience in a startup or high-growth technology environment.
-
Familiarity with SQL, business intelligence tools, or data analysis platforms.
