Mine Technical Service Aitik
Boliden is a high-tech metals company with its own mines and smelters that works long-term to guarantee society's access to base and precious metals. For a century, our work has been part of the value chains that have shaped modern society. At Boliden, we know that the metals we mine and make available will continue to play a crucial role in the future – what matters is how we produce them. Become a part of us and drive change for generations to come.
Your opportunity
Help shape safe, predictable and cost-effective blasting at one of Sweden’s major open-pit mining operations. You will convert mine plans and field conditions into practical drill and blast designs, support execution in the pit, and use performance data to improve fragmentation, wall control, ore recovery and production flow.
Who you will work with
Mine Technical Service in Aitik includes specialist teams in geology, mine surveying, mine planning, drill and blast technology, geotechnics and geohydrology. We work closely with operations and other departments to create conditions for safe and efficient production
What you will do
As a Drill and Blast Specialist, you will be part of the team responsible for planning, preparing, following up and improving drilling and blasting activities. The role combines technical design and planning work with regular field presence.
You will prepare practical drill and blast plans, support safe implementation in the field, follow up results and help improve the way we work. The role suits someone who understands mining operations, enjoys practical problem-solving and is interested in developing further within drill and blast.
Key responsibilities are:
- Develop drill patterns, charging plans, initiation sequences and blast documentation for production, trim and wall-control blasting.
- Prepare short-term drill and blast plans and schedules aligned with the approved mine plan, production priorities and geotechnical requirements.
- Provide field support before, during and after blasting, including design mark-up, drill-hole and charging QA/QC, tie-in verification and blast-area risk controls.
- Monitor drilling accuracy, hole condition, explosive loading and compliance with approved designs and standards.
- Conduct post-blast inspections and reconcile planned versus actual results, including fragmentation, floor condition, toes, backbreak, dilution, ore loss, vibration and dig performance.
- Maintain accurate blast records, charging sheets, design files, KPI data and reports, including powder factor, drill productivity, explosive consumption and blast performance.
- Collaborate with geology, survey, mine planning, geotechnical and production teams to support ore recovery, stable pit walls and efficient loading, hauling and crushing.
- Support investigations and corrective actions relating to drill and blast deviations, misfires, flyrock, excessive vibration or other blasting risks.
- Coordinate technical matters with drilling contractors, explosives suppliers and technology providers, and contribute to trials and continuous-improvement projects.
The position is full-time and permanent, based in Aitik. The starting date is subject to agreement.
What you bring
If you have experience of mining or a related operational environment and are interested in drill and blast, we encourage you to apply. We value practical site knowledge, a strong safety mindset and the motivation to develop within the role. Practical experience from drilling, blasting, charging, explosives or production work is highly valued, while technical qualifications or an engineering degree are considered an advantage. Knowledge can have been gained through hands-on work, vocational education, workplace training or university studies.
Experience and knowledge
- Experience in drilling, blasting, charging or production work is especially relevant.
- Relevant technical education is beneficial but not required.
- Experience with drill and blast software is an advantage, but training can be provided
