Procore Technologies is the leading technology partner for every stage of construction. We empower construction teams to drive efficiency and mitigate risk through actionable AI & data-driven insights. For over 20 years, we have been transforming the industry with purpose-built solutions for construction professionals and we’re looking for talented people to help us build together.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to drive the next generation of construction platform initiatives in a global SaaS infrastructure. As the Principal Software Engineer on our Owners team, you will work closely with Engineering, Product Management, UX, and Architecture teams to create and scale the next generation Procore experience on our web platform. Your strengths in distributed systems architecture, web and microservices design, and AI-native engineering will drive your success.
You will report to the Sr Engineering Director and will be based in our Bengaluru office.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Procore's approach to AI-native engineering, leveraging generative tools and agentic workflows across the SDLC while setting technical direction for engineering teams.
- Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for foundational platform services that power complex construction workflows across products, organizations, and modalities (web, mobile, API, and agentic surfaces).
- Set company-wide architectural direction, standards, and patterns; identify and resolve high-leverage, high-ambiguity technical challenges across the engineering organization before they become blockers.
- Serve as a technical mentor and force multiplier: guide and grow Staff engineers, cultivate senior technical talent, and elevate the engineering bar through architecture reviews, design councils, and technical strategy forums.
- Define Procore's approach to AI-native engineering—from agentic development workflows in the SDLC to production agentic systems in the product—and evangelize adoption across Product & Technology.
- Remain hands-on where critical: prototype high-impact technical bets, unblock complex initiatives, and author code and architectural design documents that serve as reference models for the organization.
- Partner with executives to shape product and corporate technology roadmaps; translate strategic objectives into a durable, scalable platform strategy and hold the organization accountable to technical excellence.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale, distributed, full-stack systems, with a track record of operating at a Principal level or equivalent with organization-wide technical scope.
- Deep, hands-on expertise across modern tech stacks (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Go, Java, Node.js, Python, React, TypeScript) paired with mastery in distributed systems design, resilience, and operational scalability.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in AI-native engineering, including experience architecting agentic systems, integrating LLMs into software platforms, and utilizing AI-assisted developer tooling in production environments.
- Proven judgment navigating ambiguity, with the ability to define critical engineering priorities, translate complex concepts for technical and executive audiences, and drive durable consensus.
- Strong consultative communication and stakeholder influence, comfortable presenting technical roadmaps to senior leadership and driving a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence.
Strong-fit Background Might Include
- Principal Engineer or Lead System Architect with enterprise SaaS platform or microservices ecosystem experience.
- Staff / Principal Full-Stack Engineer with specialization in modern distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and micro front-end architecture.
- AI Systems Architect / Technical Lead who has transitioned production applications to agentic workflows or LLM-integrated platforms.
- Technical Fellow or Enterprise Architect from high-growth technology, developer-tools, or B2B cloud environments.
