Want to make sustainability part of engineering decisions from the very beginning?
In this role, you will help embed energy, carbon, water, waste and ESG targets into the design basis of a greenfield plant and ensure they are tracked through to handover. Working within Engineering Management, you will collaborate across engineering disciplines and with design contractors, HSE, permitting, utilities and operations to translate sustainability ambitions into practical engineering decisions.
The role & your impact
You will drive sustainability and ESG integration across the project, making sustainability a design criterion rather than an end-of-project compliance exercise.
The role combines technical sustainability expertise with engineering coordination and governance. You will help integrate sustainability targets into the design basis and User Requirement Specifications (URS), monitor performance, and bring sustainability considerations into design reviews and engineering decisions.
Your key responsibilities in this role
- Embed sustainability and ESG requirements into engineering design , integrating relevant targets into the design basis and URS.
- Drive energy and carbon management , identifying opportunities to minimize operational energy use, emissions and embodied carbon.
- Lead water and wastewater stewardship , optimizing consumption and reuse while considering discharge-quality requirements.
- Promote materials efficiency, waste reduction and circularity , including low-carbon material choices and reduction of construction waste.
- Support environmental compliance and governance , including permits, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), ESG reporting and relevant regulatory obligations.
- Track and communicate sustainability performance through monthly KPI reporting to the Engineering Management team alongside cost and schedule.
What you’ll need to be successful in this role
- A degree in environmental, chemical, energy or process engineering , or a closely related discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in sustainability or environmental engineering within capital projects.
- Practical knowledge of energy and carbon modelling, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and water-balance methods .
- Familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), environmental permitting and ESG reporting frameworks , including the GHG Protocol and CSRD.
- Ability to translate sustainability targets into practical engineering requirements and decisions.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to represent sustainability requirements in multidisciplinary design reviews.
Additional skills & interests we value
It would be an advantage if you bring:
- Experience supporting sustainability within greenfield industrial or manufacturing projects.
- Exposure to sustainability requirements across project design, construction and handover.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- An interest in circularity, resource efficiency and integrating sustainability considerations into engineering design.
What we offer you
You will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary engineering environment where sustainability is integrated into project design and decision-making.
You will collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, design contractors, HSE, permitting, utilities and operations, giving you the opportunity to contribute to sustainability considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
